Part-time Educational Assistant

SUMMARY The educational assistant supports and assists the classroom teacher. The teacher communicates with the educational assistant regarding support tasks that help classroom management or that support student learning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

& RESPONSIBILITIES Individual student help in reading, writing, and mathematics Small group assistance to students in reading, writing, and mathematics Limited grading of some types of student work Translating orally or writing (if bilingual) Monitor students during bathroom breaks Lunch supervision Assist the substitute teacher with classroom coverage in the absence of the teacher Classroom Coverage as needed Calling parents as directed by the teacher or office personnel Other duties assigned by the principal or designee Designing bulletin boards, working on projects Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The educational assistant should possess at least a high school diploma and preferably possesses post high school credits in a college or technical school program. Ideally, the educational assistant has experience in working with youth and has some awareness of the climate and culture of a school. The educational assistant is encouraged to read and observe technological presentations about classroom processes, learning, and student behavior, and will be required to take part in any professional development offered by the school.

Bilingual candidates are preferred. Catholic candidates are preferred.
