Program Specialist/Resident Camp Director

Are you an experienced camp professional who is passionate about creating transformative outdoor experiences for young people? Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson is seeking a Year-Round Program Specialist / Resident Camp Director to lead one of our resident camp programs during the summer and develop and deliver engaging Girl Scout programs throughout the remainder of the year.

This position is ideal for acamp professional with hands-on experience in seasonal camp operations, staff supervision, and camper programming who is ready to take on a leadership role that extends beyond the summer season. During the summer, you will oversee the daily operations of a resident camp, ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-managed experience for campers and staff.

Throughout the rest of the year, you will develop and deliver outdoor adventures, leadership programs, special events, and other experiences that advance the Girl Scout mission. What You'll DoSummer Camp Leadership- Direct the day-to-day operations of a resident camp, including camper experience, staff management, schedules, and daily programming.

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal camp staff.
• Oversee camper safety, risk management, emergency procedures, and staff accountability.
• Ensure camp operations meet applicable ACA standards, New York State Department of Health requirements, and organizational policies.
• Manage camp budgets, supplies, facilities coordination, and operational logistics.
• Communicate effectively with families, staff, volunteers, and organizational leadership.Year-Round Program Development- Design, coordinate, and deliver engaging Girl Scout programs, outdoor experiences, leadership activities, and special events.
• Develop program plans, schedules, budgets, and implementation strategies.
• Build relationships with volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
• Support the council's mission through innovative, inclusive, and high-quality youth programming.Required Qualifications-At least three years of professional experience working in a camp setting, with direct involvement in camp operations, camper programming, or seasonal camp leadership.
• Experience supervising, training, or leading seasonal staff.
• Demonstrated understanding of camp operations, camper supervision, safety practices, and the unique demands of seasonal camp environments.
• Strong organizational, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• A genuine commitment to youth development, outdoor education, and creating inclusive camp experiences.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to program and camp locations as needed.Preferred Qualifications- Experience in resident camp or overnight camp operations.
• Previous experience as a camp director, assistant camp director, program director, unit leader, or comparable camp leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor education, youth development, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Familiarity with ACA accreditation standards and New York State children's camp regulations. ## Why Join Us?
