Job description

HIRSH INDUSTRIES

  • Financial & Data Analyst Location
  • West Des Moines, Iowa (on-site only) Employment
  • Full-time | Individual contributor | Reports to CFO Compensation
  • Base salary + bonus eligiblity + profit sharing Most entry-level finance jobs ask you to report what happened. This one asks you to explain why it happened — and what we should do next. You'll work directly with our CFO and executive team on the questions that move a manufacturing business: What does this product really cost to make? Why did margin change last quarter? What happens if we raise prices 4%? Where is the market heading? Then you'll help us turn the answers into automated, AI-powered reporting so the next answer comes faster. About Hirsh Industries Hirsh Industries has been making steel products since 1924, when our roots began as the W.P. Johnson Company. Today we design and manufacture office furniture, filing and storage products, lockers, and related steel goods, with headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa and a manufacturing operation in Dover, DE and Mexicali, Mexico. We are a hands-on, mid-sized manufacturer — big enough to have complex, interesting problems, and small enough that a strong analyst's work gets seen, used, and acted on by the people who run the company. Why This Role Is Different A seat at the table, early. Your analysis goes to the CFO and executive team, not into a queue. You'll present your own work. Breadth most analysts wait years for. Cost, pricing, budgeting, market strategy, supply chain, and automation — the exposure of a rotational program in a single role. A real AI mandate. We've already connected our core business systems into a single data repository that AI tools can work from. Your job includes figuring out how far we can take that — and you'll be encouraged, not just permitted, to experiment. Work you can see. Our products are physical and our plants are real. You'll connect the numbers to the factory floor. What You'll Work On Explain what drives profit. Build revenue bridges that break performance into price, volume, and mix; run budget-versus-actual variance analysis; and help design the KPI scorecards leadership uses to run the business. Figure out what things really cost. Build product cost models, develop time-driven activity-based costing, and separate fixed from variable costs so we understand our operating leverage and true product and customer profitability. Shape pricing decisions. Model the margin and volume impact of pricing changes and help the commercial team decide where, when, and how much. Build the plan. Support the annual budget, rolling forecasts, and scenario models — with clear, documented assumptions. Look outside our walls. Research market size, customer segments, and competitors to inform strategy and growth decisions. Help the supply chain run smarter. Partner with our supply chain leader on analytics such as inventory, service levels, and freight when extra analytical horsepower is needed. Automate the routine. Convert recurring manual reports into automated, AI-assisted reporting so the team spends its time on judgment, not copy-and-paste — while keeping our data secure and our numbers right. What Success Looks Like in Your First Year First 90 days: You know our data, our products, and our P&L. You own a recurring price / volume / mix bridge and have automated at least one report that used to be built by hand. By six months: You've built a product cost model for a major product family and delivered a fixed-versus-variable cost analysis leadership uses in decisions. By twelve months: A company KPI scorecard you helped build is part of monthly executive reviews, and you've presented at least one pricing or market analysis to the leadership team. Who We're Looking For Someone who is passionate about turning financial and operational data into insight, who loves to learn, and who wants an early-career role that builds real skills fast. If you're the person who asks "why" behind the numbers, we want to talk to you. What You Bring A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, or another quantitative field. 0–4 years of professional experience. Internships, co-ops, and serious academic or personal projects count. Coursework or experience in managerial or cost accounting — you understand the difference between reporting results and explaining them. Strong Excel modeling skills and comfort working with large, imperfect datasets. Genuine curiosity about AI and analytics tools. If you've used them to build something, we want to see it. The ability to turn numbers into a clear story for people who don't live in spreadsheets. Sound judgment and integrity with data: you check your work, flag what doesn't tie, and protect confidential information.

Nice to Have

Experience with a BI tool such as Tableau or Power BI. Exposure to an ERP system such as SAP, or to a manufacturing or industrial environment. Plans to pursue a CPA, CMA, or MBA. Our Data Toolkit Tableau serves as our integrated data hub, bringing together ERP, CRM, supply chain planning software, with Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI tools working on top of it.

Our integrated history runs from 2019 forward — and helping us extend and strengthen that foundation is part of the opportunity. You don't need experience with all of these. We'll teach you the systems; we're hiring for how you think. Growth and Benefits A launchpad for your goals: Hirsh supports continuing education outside work hours.

Whether you plan to earn a CPA or an MBA, this role is built to help you get there, and the work you do here will put what you learn into practice right away. Mentorship: You'll learn directly from senior finance leadership and see how executive decisions get made.

Benefits

Health insurance, dental, vision, life, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and bonus and profit-sharing eligibility.
