Project / Cost Accountant

A well-established tech company is seeking a Project Accountant to act as the execution engine for transactional accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Supporting the Finance & Administration Manager, this position takes ownership of day-to-day general ledger management, month-end and year-end close procedures, tax administration, and working capital monitoring.

Key deliverables include compiling monthly reporting packs, evaluating expenditure variances, maintaining cash flow forecasts, overseeing debtors and creditors, and contributing to ongoing finance process and systems improvements. Project Accounting/Cost accounting experience is a must!

Key Responsibilities

Record financial transactions in accordance with accounting standards, reconcile balance sheet accounts, maintain fixed asset registers, and monitor accounting integrity. Month-End & Year-End Close: Execute month-end and year-end closing schedules, compile supporting schedules, manage accruals and prepayments, and assist with statutory financial statement preparation.

Management Reporting & Financial Analysis: Prepare monthly management reporting packs and dashboards, analyse budget variances and cost overruns, track departmental expenses, and report on expenditure trends. Working Capital & Cash Flow Management: Process daily and weekly bank reconciliations, maintain cash flow forecasts, monitor debtor ageing reports to support collections, and manage creditor reconciliations and payment schedules.

Taxation & Statutory Compliance: Maintain tax good standing by preparing statutory reconciliations and submissions, maintaining tax records, and supporting responses to SARS queries and audits. Audit, Controls & Process Optimisation: Prepare external audit schedules, evaluate internal controls, improve reporting workflows, and assist with B-BBEE documentation, insurance administration, and compliance files.

Requirements

Essential Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Minimum 3 to 5 years' accounting experience preparing full accounting records to trial balance and monthly management accounts. Practical experience in debtors, creditors, bank reconciliations, VAT, and statutory tax compliance.

Experience working within an SME or medium-sized business environment. Demonstrated capability in financial analysis, budget monitoring, general ledger management, and data reconciliations. Desirable Requirements SAIPA Articles completed or in progress. Professional accounting qualification. Registered Tax Practitioner status.

Prior accounting experience within ICT integrators, engineering, distribution, or technical services sectors. Required Software Skills Advanced Microsoft Excel Experience using Sage, Pastel, Xero, QuickBooks, Business Central, or similar ERP systems
