Custodian I � Facilities Lewiston Public Schools Job Title Custodian I Department Facilities Reports To Head Custodian at assigned building (daily direction); Director of Facilities (supervision) Approved By J. Langlais, Superintendent Effective Date 10/2/2026 Status Full-time, hourly Pay Range $18.87 - $21.16 per hour Position Summary The Custodian I keeps the district's school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.

This includes cleaning, restocking, building security, seasonal grounds work, and summer deep cleaning. Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, on the assigned shift and according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference.

Schools depend on clean, safe, and secure buildings every day. Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, including summer work and, as assigned, snow removal or building events outside regular hours.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Perform seasonal grounds work, including snow removal, sanding and salting, and lawn care. Clean and maintain designated spaces and equipment in the building. Restock disposable items and provide the supervisor with inventory usage data. Assist members of the public using the facilities with directions and with obtaining and setting up needed equipment.

Maintain building and grounds security, including locking and unlocking doors and reporting safety concerns. During the summer, move furniture, strip, scrub, and wax floors, and return furniture. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Education

and/or experience High school diploma or GED Prior custodial experience preferred Available and able to work 5 days per week on the assigned shift Language skills Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine correspondence. Speak effectively with other employees and students.

Mathematical skills Add and subtract two-digit numbers, and multiply and divide by 10s and 100s. Perform these operations using U.S. money and measurements of weight, volume, and distance. Reasoning ability Solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in standard situations. Interpret instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other skills and abilities Build effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.

and Benefits Hourly pay ranges from $18.87 - $21.16. Regularly stand, walk, talk, and hear, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls. Occasionally sit. Frequently reach with hands and arms, including above the head and forward. Frequently squat, stoop, or kneel, and bend or twist at the neck and trunk.

Continuously use hand strength to grasp tools, and climb ladders. Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds, such as daily removal of trash bags and recyclables, cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Occasionally lift and move up to 90 pounds, such as bags of salt and bulk furniture. Sometimes push and pull items such as tables, bleachers, and floor-scrubbing machines.

Use close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee works mainly indoors and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions, including snow and cold. The employee works near or with moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays, following safety data sheets and required personal protective equipment.

The employee must be able to meet deadlines under tight time constraints. The noise level is usually moderate.
