Weld Shop Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the welding repairs/maintenance of containers and/or the vehicle fleet.
Weld Shop Supervisors hire, train, coach, evaluate, counsel, and manage the performance of the welders and other staff with an emphasis on safety and productivity.
Responsibilities
Oversee and manage the daily activities and performance of weld shop employees Manage the welding staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work assignments, performance management, discipline, and authorization of overtime Ensure all safety and compliance standards are met or exceeded Ensure proper PPE is utilized by employees and compliance with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures is adhered to consistently Act as a hands-on Supervisor, ensuring oversight of the assigned shift Ensure the daily housekeeping plan is followed and that all areas are cleaned effectively Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management Conduct employee observations to ensure safety procedures and other protocols are being followed Perform sanding, grinding, cutting, welding, and other fabrication or repair work on company containers, compactors, and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company, ANSI, and OSHA standards Complete required paperwork utilizing a computer system Utilize standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment Perform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: This position will manage 1-20 employees This position will not oversee and direct other managers Skills & Abilities Needed for Position: Ability to lead and develop subordinate employees Attention to detail and ability to track and maintain documentation Proficient in the use and interpretation of installation diagrams and troubleshooting manuals Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers Basic computer skills; working knowledge of Windows applications and SAP a plus Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position: Previous experience and knowledge of MIG/ARC and stick welding Minimum 3-5 years welding and cutting experience Previous management experience preferred Knowledge of small shop tools Physical Requirements in a Regular workday: Continuously lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 10 lbs Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs Frequently working outside continuously in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling Occasionally climbing and/or balancing Occasionally sitting; frequently standing/walking Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas Exposure to residential and commercial waste Ability to travel between offices, as required Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls Legally eligible to work in the United States Valid driver’s license (if applicable) Must successfully complete pre-employment testing Must be able to read and speak the English language This job description is intended to describe the general nature, complexity, and level of work to be performed by employees assigned to this position and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required.
