Position Overview
The Environmental Scientist is responsible for supporting the Company's environmental compliance, permitting, and stewardship programs for the Mule Canyon mine site. This position works closely with operations, engineering, geology, health & safety, and regulatory agencies to ensure environmental obligations are met throughout permitting, development, construction, and future mining operations.
The successful candidate will assist in maintaining regulatory compliance while supporting environmental monitoring, permitting activities, reclamation planning, and environmental reporting. This role plays a key part in helping the Company operate responsibly and sustainably while minimizing environmental risk, protecting natural resources, and maintaining positive relationships with regulators and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Support environmental permitting, compliance, and reporting activities in accordance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Coordinate environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater, surface water, water quality, air quality, wildlife, vegetation, and reclamation activities. Prepare permit applications, technical reports, environmental studies, and regulatory submissions to support ongoing operations and project development.
Conduct environmental inspections, field assessments, compliance audits, and site investigations while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Maintain environmental permits, monitoring data, regulatory records, and compliance documentation. Support reclamation planning, closure activities, environmental baseline studies, and long-term stewardship initiatives.
Coordinate environmental consultants, contractors, laboratories, and regulatory agencies as required. Collaborate with engineering, geology, operations, and health & safety teams to integrate environmental requirements into project planning and execution. Assist with agency inspections, regulatory communications, and environmental compliance reporting.
Promote environmental awareness, sustainability, and responsible resource stewardship throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Biology, Geology, or a related discipline. 3+ years of environmental experience in mining, consulting, construction, or other regulated industrial environments. Working knowledge of federal and Nevada environmental regulations, permitting processes, and environmental monitoring programs.
Experience preparing technical reports, conducting environmental sampling, managing compliance documentation, and supporting regulatory permitting. Familiarity with reclamation planning, water management, NEPA, and mine permitting is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental data management systems.
Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently in both field and office environments while managing multiple priorities. Reporting Structure This position reports to the Manager, Environmental & Permitting and works cross-functionally with geology, engineering, operations, health & safety, and corporate teams.
