Job description
About You and the Role:
Enstar currently has two European insurance companies – Alpha NV (“Alpha”; based in Belgium) and StarStone Insurance SE (“SISE”; domiciled in Liechtenstein). It is expected that SISE will redomicile to Belgium in H2 2026 and subsequently Alpha will be merged into SISE to form a single regulated entity thereafter.
SISE will then become the hub of all of Enstar’s European business development activities, including potential company acquisitions, loss portfolio transfers and other insurance structures carried either locally or on other Group balance sheets.
The finance function is performed by a local team based in Belgium, supported by a UK-based finance team as part of the intra-group outsourcing arrangement. The Belgian staff currently comprise a CFO, responsible for all of the financial affairs of the regulated entity, supported by an Accountant whose duties include local accounts payable, payroll and other controllership activities.
Due to the expansion of local activities with the domiciliation of SISE, an additional role has been created in Belgium to further support the CFO. The newly created Financial Analyst position will report into the Belgium CFO and is a high-profile role in an expanding business and will provide opportunities for both professional and personal development.
What you will be doing:
The key responsibilities of this role will include –
- Liaison with the UK-based finance team responsible for all technical accounting bookings to ensure they are complete and accurate, and reflect the underlying insurance business.
- Oversight of the monthly and quarterly close process including all core controllership activities, statutory and regulatory reporting.
- Understanding and overseeing the US GAAP to Belgian GAAP reconciliation process
- Supporting the CFO in local reporting requirements including statutory accounts, periodic Board reporting and Solvency II reporting
- Supporting the Group Tax department with preparation, review and filing of direct and indirect taxes
- Preparing and reporting business analytics including insurance result analysis, investment performance and expense management
- Provide external auditors with requested schedules, documentation and explanations to enable timely audit completion
- Resolution of audit questions and findings by delivering corrective actions and evidence to reduce repeat issues and control gaps
- Ensuring a robust financial control environment, including the timely resolution of issues and delivery of Group requirements
- Superuser for the general ledger to ensure ongoing alignment between US and Belgian ledgers, appropriate accounts structure, user access and report building
- Support for future acquisitions including pre-transaction analysis, deal bookings and integration of financial processes and controls
- Portfolio analysis for local transactions booked into other Group companies; liaison with counterparties to ensure timely and accurate data is collected in order to record the transaction in the Group’s books and records.
- Ad-hoc reporting and controlling requests
What you will bring:
- University degree with 3 to 5 years’ experience in accounting or audit
- Knowledge of Belgian accounting law
- Knowledge of Solvency II
- Good spoken and written English
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience of insurance accounting is preferred, but not essential
- US GAAP experience is preferred, but not essential
- Workday ERP experience is preferred, but not essential
