Lead Mechanical Engineer Location: Berkshire/Oxfordshire Salary: up to £45,000 (+OTE and double rate overtime) Contract: Permanent Are you an experienced plumber ready to lead mechanical projects and advance your engineering career? SMS Environmental is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer based in Oxfordshire/Berkshire to deliver plumbing, mechanical, and water hygiene projects across customer sites.

In this hands-on role, you will manage remedial and reactive tasks, handle water hygiene work alongside Water Treatment Engineers, and mentor team plumbers to maintain high standards. What’s in it for me? 37.5 hours per week (Monday–Friday) – plus paid overtime available Company iPad and mobile phone Modern, fully serviced company van and business fuel card City & Guilds Affiliated Training Programme to support your professional growth Private Medical Care or alternative Cash Plan after 2 years’ service Employee Discount Scheme – save up to £240 per month on food and groceries What You'll Be Doing: Carrying out a range of plumbing and mechanical works , including scheduled remedial and reactive tasks Leading and managing larger mechanical installations, including plantroom and domestic installations Taking ownership of project delivery on site, including prioritising work, coordinating materials and meeting deadlines Carrying out water testing, sampling and control work when required What We're Looking For: A minimum of 5 years' plumbing experience , ideally within the water hygiene industry A minimum Level 2 Plumbing qualification (NVQ, Certificate, Diploma or equivalent) A G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification or Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS) A full UK manual driving licence The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check as part of the pre-employment screening process.
