About Renaissance. Re Renaissance. Re was founded in Bermuda in 1993, the year after Hurricane Andrew caused damage far beyond what anyone had modeled as a worst case. When a hurricane, an earthquake or a cyberattack produces more claims than one insurer can absorb, reinsurers like us take on part of that risk.
