The Opportunity EY Malta is seeking skilled, motivated and proactive Systems Engineers to join our Technology Consulting team. The successful candidates will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams to design, implement, optimise and support secure, scalable and reliable technology infrastructure and application platform solutions across a range of industries.

The role covers a combination of cloud, hybrid and on-premises technologies with virtualisation, containers, automation and application platform support. You will translate business and technical requirements into practical solutions aligned with client needs, security expectations and industry best practices, while contributing to complex transformation and modernisation programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, configure and support secure, scalable and reliable infrastructure and application platform solutions across client environments. Assess and optimise infrastructure performance, availability, resilience and scalability, providing practical recommendations for improvement. Design and implement cloud, hybrid and on-premises solutions, including virtualised and containerised environments.

Implement identity and access management solutions. Maintain and troubleshoot environments, middleware and application services. Implement automation through Infrastructure-as-Code and support CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration and application deployments. Design and implement monitoring, logging, patching, endpoint management, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.

Deliver infrastructure deployments, migrations, upgrades and configuration changes as part of project delivery and support engagements. Troubleshoot infrastructure and platform issues, performing root-cause analysis and escalating where necessary. Prepare and maintain technical documentation, implementation plans and operational materials.

Collaborate with clients, vendors, project managers, technical teams and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfer and support to clients and internal teams, while staying informed on emerging technologies and contributing to continuous service improvement.

Requirements

Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Previous experience as a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Systems Administrator or in a similar technology role. Experience designing, implementing and supporting cloud, hybrid and on-premises infrastructure solutions.

Experience with infrastructure migrations, upgrades, deployments and system modernisation initiatives. Sound understanding of networking and security concepts. Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, monitoring, logging, patch management and endpoint management solutions. Knowledge of Linux server administration. Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate complex cross-platform issues.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, deliverables and deadlines across concurrent projects and client engagements.

Nice to Have

Industry certifications such as those by Microsoft or Red Hat Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and Linux. Experience with databases. Experience with Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender and related Microsoft security solutions. Experience with virtualisation and container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes or Red Hat Open.

Shift. Experience with Power. Shell, scripting, automation or Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform or Bicep. Knowledge of Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka and Apache Tomcat. Exposure to regulated industries such as financial services, gaming, healthcare or the public sector.
