Assistant Professor of Piano

Position Announcement The Department of Music at Abilene Christian University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Piano.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished pianist and dedicated teacher who will contribute to the artistic and academic life of the department through applied and classroom teaching, collaborative performance, creative scholarship, recruitment, and service. The primary teaching assignment will include applied piano instruction and courses in piano and related areas as assigned.

The position will also include serving as collaborative pianist for university choral ensembles.

Responsibilities

Teach applied piano to undergraduate music majors and minors. Teach class piano and other courses according to departmental needs and the candidate’s areas of expertise. Serve as collaborative pianist for university choral ensembles as assigned, including rehearsals, performances, auditions, and an annual choir tour. Maintain an active program of professional and creative scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track faculty appointment.

Recruit and retain piano students and participate in departmental recruitment activities. Participate in departmental, college, and university service. Collaborate with faculty and guest artists as appropriate. Support the mission of ACU through Christ-centered teaching, service, and mentoring of students. Required Qualifications Doctorate in piano performance, piano pedagogy, collaborative piano, or a closely related field; ABD candidates who will complete the degree by the start of the appointment may be considered.

Demonstrated excellence as a pianist. Demonstrated ability to teach applied piano. Strong collaborative piano skills. Ability to teach undergraduate piano and keyboard courses. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Commitment to the values of Christian higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful college or university teaching experience. Experience teaching class piano and/or piano pedagogy. Experience accompanying choral ensembles. Record of professional performance and creative activity. Experience recruiting and mentoring undergraduate music students.
