Job description
JOB TITLE Job Purpose An opportunity has become available for an Associate to join the Real Estate and Banking and Finance Practice Areas in our Nairobi office. The ideal candidate should be an Admitted Advocate with at least 2 years post qualifying experience in Real Estate and Banking and Finance transactions. The candidate will join a busy and successful team and gain excellent exposure to diverse real estate and security perfection matters.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to; Bank security documentation (including Debentures, Charges, Discharges and related documentation) Real Estate documentation (including Leases (both long term and short term) and Transfers) Able to delegate and work with Trainee Advocates. Able to work with Conveyancing Secretaries and Clerks.
Able to engage with corresponding lawyers, public agencies such as the Ministry of Lands and clients, where applicable. Taking responsibility for matters allocated under the overall supervision of the partner in the team. Maintaining a disciplined administration of the practice. Maintaining daily time-recording and settling fee narratives at month end.
Participating in the marketing activities of the team, including participation in presentations, seminars and the writing of thought leadership articles when required.
Requirements
LLB Degree from a recognised university. Admission as an Advocate in Kenya. Experience Banking and Finance and Real Estate drafting experience required. 2- 3 years plus experience post admission in a general conveyancing practice Lands registry office exposure and experience advantageous. Other Requirements The ideal candidate should also meet the following requirements: Excellent interpersonal, drafting and written communication skills; Strong technical skills needed to support the client work of the practice areas; Ability to administer and execute instructions, from receipt to conclusion, with minimal professional supervision; Strong organisational skills, meticulous and high attention to detail; Ability to prioritise and co-ordinate work in order to meet deadlines in a highly pressurised environment; Ability to work well both in a team and individually; Show interest and an appreciation of what is happening around you, i.
e. understand that political and economic events may have an impact on your clients and your practice; and Ability to take initiative and assume responsibility for monitoring the expeditious progress of matters.
