DISTRICT Hooksett POSITION Grade 3-5 Special Education Teacher SUPERVISOR Director of Student Services POSITION GOAL The special education teacher is responsible for the education of each pupil in his/her charge and for working with students, parents, other educators, and staff toward achieving the goals set forth in the District's Mission Statement.
Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential intellectual, emotional and psychological growth. The IEP case manager's primary responsibility is to ensure that students have appropriately written individual education plans and that these plans are being implemented in all school settings. The case manager is also responsible to monitor the plan and to ensure program compliance: that required timelines are being observed; that direct services, accommodations, modification and other services indicated on the plan are being implemented in all school settings; and that the student is benefitting from the services provided.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Minimum of Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university Certification NH Department of Education certification in content area Criminal Record Check Required per NH RSA 189: 13-a Pre Employment Medical Exam Required per NH RSA 200:36 and 275:3 EVALUATION Performance of position responsibilities will be evaluated annually in accordance with the approved administrative procedure for staff evaluations GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of child and adolescent development Awareness of NH Administrative Rules and Regulations Knowledge of research based instructional interventions.
Ability to collaborate with professionals, parents, and the community. Knowledge of testing instruments and their application to the academic setting. Ability to communicate with students. Standing at blackboard and in front of class to perform classroom instruction. Sitting at desk to perform duties associated with classroom instruction.
Ability to move around the classroom to supervise, interact and communicate with students. Escort students to other classes that occur at locations outside the assigned classroom. Operate a personal computer, telephone, and/or other related equipment. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Sufficient mobility to function within a general classroom setting. Standing : Frequent Lifting : Occasional Walking : Frequent Reaching : Occasional Sitting : Frequent Push/Pull : Occasional Driving : Infrequent/Rare Bend/Stoop : Occasional GENERAL RESPONSIBILTIES Except as specifically noted, the following functions are essential to the position.
Design, implement and monitor students Individual Education Plans and provide the support and services needed to meet the individual needs and goals of the plan Plans for and guides the learning process to help students achieve program objectives with classroom teachers Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials Established a cooperative relationship with all assigned students Works collaboratively with colleagues and administration to achieve all the overall purposes of the school program Works individually and in groups with students to provide remedial instruction Schedule and supervise special education aides responsibilities with students and their performance Meet with students, parents, community agencies, teachers and guidance counselors to: Develop Individual Education Plans Develop schedules for instruction, consultation and service related experience Identify appropriate courses, instruction and activities Monitor and modify IEP as necessary Collaborate regarding students progress Communicate concerns with students performance This job description is not intended to be all inclusive, and employees will also perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s).
