As a part-time Swim Instructor at the W. Dale Brougher Fondation YMCA (Shrewsbury), you’ll help swimmers build confidence and water-safety skills through energetic, high-quality lessons in a welcoming setting. This role exists to deliver consistent instruction that keeps participants progressing-and keeps safety at the center of every splash.

Key responsibilities

• Teach YMCA swim lessons by level using provided lesson plans and curriculum
• Build positive connections with participants and parents/caregivers; share progress when appropriate
• Follow all YMCA policies, including emergency and safety procedures; complete incident/accident reports as needed
• Maintain accurate class documentation (attendance, handbooks, certificates)
• Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as requested

Required qualifications/skills:

• CPR Pro & First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
• Mandated Reporter clearance; state police, child abuse, and FBI fingerprint clearances
• Strong communication/interpersonal skills; inclusive, positive teaching approach

You arrive to the buzz of the aquatics area, greet familiar faces, and get the space set-lane markers, kickboards, and a quick scan to ensure everything is ready. Between classes, you check rosters, jot down quick notes on progress, and trade updates with teammates. The pace ramps up fast: eager kids, focused adults, and parents watching for that breakthrough moment. After the final whistle, you reset the deck, wrap up paperwork, and head out knowing you helped turn nerves into confidence-one lap at a time.
