Could It Be You? The Senior Software Engineer leads the technical design and delivery of complex, high-performance features across Questrade's products, spanning front-end applications (React Native, ReactJS) and back-end services (NodeJS, APIs, distributed systems). This role is intentionally platform-flexible: candidates may lean toward front-end, back-end, or full-stack work, with the specific focus determined collaboratively during the interview process based on the candidate's strongest expertise and the team's current needs. The Senior Software Engineer sets engineering standards, mentors developers, partners cross-functionally to ensure scalable and resilient architectures, and owns service or application health for key domain components. Need more details? Keep reading… In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to: Lead technical design and delivery of complex features and services — front-end, back-end, or both — documenting architectural trade-offs. Break down large, ambiguous problems into deliverable increments and sequence them with product partners. Set and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, security, observability, and operational readiness across the stack. Own performance and scalability across your area — profiling, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing under production load (for example, high-frequency, real-time data streaming in trading features). Mentor and coach intermediate and junior developers, delivering constructive code reviews and guiding technical growth regardless of specialization. Partner with Product, UX, Enterprise Architecture, and Security to ensure scalable, resilient, and compliant designs across platforms. Lead incident response for significant outages in your area of ownership, driving blameless post-incident reviews to closure with structural fixes. Own health for key domain components — performance, reliability, and technical debt — on the front end, back end, or both. Champion the exploration and adoption of AI tools to improve developer productivity and platform features. Contribute to technical hiring by conducting technical assessments and candidate interviews, including helping calibrate a candidate's front-end/back-end fit. So are YOU our next Senior Software Engineer ? You are if you… Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 6+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating production software at scale. Deep, hands-on expertise in at least one of the following tracks, with working familiarity across the stack: Front-end track: Expert-level JavaScript/TypeScript with React Native (mobile) and/or ReactJS (web); strong grasp of state management, component architecture, and cross-platform performance (memory profiling, bundle size, render optimization). Back-end track: Deep expertise in Node.js/TypeScript; proven experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models under production load. Proven experience with RESTful APIs and service-oriented or microservices architectures, from either the consuming or the building side. Strong cloud-native experience (GCP preferred), including CI/CD at scale; containerization/Kubernetes exposure is a plus. Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives across multiple developers without formal authority. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to both engineering and cross-functional audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (Web. Sockets, Kafka, Pub/Sub) or low-latency, high-frequency financial/trading systems. For back-end-leaning candidates: front-end or mobile framework exposure (ReactJS, React Native, iOS/Android) is a strong asset. Angular experience is a nice-to-have. Domain experience in financial services, brokerage, trading, or regulated environments.

SRE practices, capacity planning, or cloud cost optimization (Fin. Ops). Experience building AI/ML-enabled features or data-intensive platforms. Active technical thought leadership (open-source contributions, technical publications, conference speaking).

Compensation

Base salary range: $100,000- $144,000 The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles. Sounds like you? Click below to apply!
