Obstetrical Technician

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks an Obstetrical Technician for its Birth Center department, responsible for maintaining all sterile instruments and other equipment necessary to perform obstetrical care, assisting in training for new products, maintaining supplies in the unit, and processing requisitions and shipment verification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains proper levels of inventory and procurement of supplies for the Birth Center and Antepartum rooms. Responsible for the decontamination, sorting, processing, and inventory of surgical instruments and special equipment. Checks for and removes expired supplies. Requests for equipment and monitor repairs as needed.

Assists with surgical procedures, such as Cesarean sections. Performs scrub tech duties. Prevents contamination of sterile fields, maintaining asepsis when opening and accepting supplies, setting up delivery and/or OR tables, and handling lab specimens. Points out known breaks in aseptic technique and corrects deficiencies.

Checks and sets up instruments and supplies according to the procedure type, patient needs, surgical team requirements, and physician preference. Breaks down surgical suites and birthing rooms after cases. Performs unit coordinator functions, such as answering phones, arriving patients in Cottage. One, scheduling cases, assembling charts, printing armbands, scanning documents into Cottage.

One, preparing the change-of-shift census, posting charges, and other requested tasks. Assists nursing with patient care as needed, such as taking vital signs as assigned, placing patients on monitors as assigned, assisting with patient turns, and assisting with set-up of Birth rooms after cleaning.

Education

Preferred: Completion of surgical tech training course. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Minimum: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS). Technical Requirements: Minimum: Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
