Job description

Overview

Our client is seeking a skilled Design Engineer to design and develop innovative mechanical and natural smoke ventilation systems. Working closely with internal teams, contractors and consultants, you will play a key role in delivering compliant, high-quality solutions that meet technical, safety and client requirements while supporting projects from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Develop detailed designs for mechanical and natural smoke ventilation systems using CAD and other relevant design software. Ensure designs comply with client specifications, regulatory requirements and international fire safety standards, including EN12101. Collaborate with architects, contractors and consultants to integrate ventilation systems into wider building designs.

Review CFD analysis to optimise system performance during fire scenarios. Produce technical documentation, specifications, installation guidance and product information. Provide technical support throughout the design process and Design Pack creation. Research and implement new technologies and materials to improve system performance and efficiency.

Requirements

Experience & Qualifications Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline. Proven experience designing smoke ventilation systems or similar building services solutions. Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit or SolidWorks. Strong understanding of ventilation principles.

Knowledge of relevant building regulations, fire safety codes and ventilation standards including EN12101 and BS9999. Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and compliance. Full UK Driving Licence. Desirable Experience working on high-rise residential developments, new-build projects or communal building systems.

Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows. Skills & Attributes Proactive, adaptable and resilient approach. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

Effective project management and workload prioritisation skills. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Ability to coach and mentor colleagues where required.
