Job Summary

The Country Director serves as Food for the Hungry (FH) Indonesia's chief executive, chief representative, and strategic leader, providing overall leadership, direction, and stewardship of the organization's mission, strategy, people, programs, partnerships, and resources in Indonesia. Based in Jakarta as the organization's primary leadership hub, the Country Director leads the achievement of FH's Golden Circle by ensuring that those we serve have the agency, systems, and resources necessary to become resilient and flourish.

The Country Director drives organizational effectiveness and impact through strategic leadership, resource mobilization, partnership development, innovation, organizational stewardship, and external engagement while ensuring excellence in program implementation, operations, compliance, and accountability. The Country Director represents FH Indonesia with government ministries, donors, embassies, philanthropic institutions, private-sector partners, churches, alliances, consortiums, and humanitarian and development networks, positioning the organization for sustainable growth, expanded influence, stronger partnerships, increased visibility, and greater impact.

Working closely with the Local Board, Senior Leadership Team, staff, and external stakeholders, the Country Director helps strengthen organizational sustainability, strategic direction, resource mobilization, governance effectiveness, and long-term impact while fostering a culture of servant leadership, collaboration, accountability, innovation, and excellence.

Responsibilities

Leadership, Culture, and Staff Development Provide visionary leadership that inspires organizational excellence, innovation, collaboration, and accountability. Champion FH's Heartbeat Values and cultivate a healthy organizational culture that promotes spiritual wellbeing, staff engagement, learning, inclusion, and resilience.

Lead, coach, mentor, and hold accountable the Senior Leadership Team. Ensure FH attracts, develops, retains, and promotes high-performing talent. Foster a learning environment that enables staff development, leadership growth, and succession planning. Lead organizational development and change initiatives that strengthen effectiveness and adaptability.

Promote a culture of collaboration, stewardship, innovation, and results. Strategic Leadership and Organizational Growth Lead the development, implementation, and achievement of FH Indonesia's strategic priorities and long-term vision. Ensure organizational priorities, investments, and resources support sustainable growth, impact, and effectiveness.

Work collaboratively with the Local Board, Senior Leadership Team, and key stakeholders to shape organizational strategy and future direction. Identify emerging opportunities, trends, risks, and partnerships within Indonesia's humanitarian, development, philanthropic, and policy landscape. Ensure annual work plans, objectives, and performance measures align with organizational strategy and priorities.

Position FH Indonesia for future effectiveness through strategic investments in people, systems, partnerships, innovation, and capacity. Ensure FH makes strategic investments that strengthen future organizational resilience, competitiveness, and impact. Local Board Engagement and Organizational Stewardship The Country Director works collaboratively with the Local Board to support strong organizational stewardship, strategic alignment, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

Build and maintain productive relationships with the Local Board and Board leadership. Partner with the Board in discussions related to organizational strategy, sustainability, growth, risk management, and impact. Provide timely information, analysis, and updates to support informed governance and oversight. Collaborate with Board members to strengthen organizational visibility, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, philanthropy, and strategic partnerships.

Leverage Board expertise, networks, and experience to advance FH Indonesia's strategic priorities. Support continuous strengthening of governance practices, organizational accountability, and stewardship. Foster a culture of transparency, ethical leadership, learning, and continuous improvement. Ensure the Board remains informed regarding organizational performance, strategic developments, opportunities, and risks.

Resource Mobilization, Fundraising, and Business Development Provide executive leadership to all business development and resource mobilization initiatives. Expand and diversify institutional, philanthropic, church, corporate, and individual funding opportunities. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with donors, funding agencies, philanthropic institutions, and development partners.

Strengthen FH Indonesia's local fundraising and philanthropy strategy, including engagement with corporations, foundations, family philanthropies, and high-net-worth individuals. Position FH Indonesia proactively for future grant opportunities through donor engagement, market intelligence, networking, and partnership development.

Engage and collaborate with the Local Board to expand strategic networks, strengthen relationships, and support fundraising and partnership development opportunities. Guide the strategic pursuit and acquisition of new sources of income and partnership opportunities. Ensure sustainable growth through innovative fundraising, resource mobilization, and partnership strategies.

Programmatic and Operational Excellence Ensure FH Unlock Program Model is implemented with excellence, accountability, and compliance with FH and donor requirements. Ensure projects achieve stated outcomes, objectives, and results on time and within budget. Maintain effective oversight of program quality, organizational performance, financial stewardship, risk management, and operational effectiveness.

Promote innovation, learning, evidence-based decision-making, and adaptive management. Ensure strong collaboration between programs, operations, finance, people and culture, business development, and support functions. Promote strong monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems across the organization.

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, donor requirements, and FH policies. Support the development and testing of innovative approaches that improve organizational impact and effectiveness. Safeguarding and Risk Management Ensures appropriate protection and well-being of FH staff, community partners, assets, and organizational reputation.

Ensures that children and vulnerable adults are protected from safeguarding issues by all staff and FH representatives in the delivery of projects and programs in the country. Ensures that systems, policies, and procedures are properly developed and implemented in order to strengthen safety and security of all staff and FH resources.

Actively identifies, mitigates, and monitors all risks to the organization and initiates corrective action where organizational gaps or weaknesses heighten risk. Other duties as assigned. The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive and may be changed at any time. Qualification At least 15 years of experience in relief and development or relevant industry.

Minimum 5 years of experience as a senior-level manager overseeing complex, multi-sector relief and development programs; experience in managing intercultural teams. Bachelor’s degree, or a field related to international relief and development, or 20 years of experience in relief and development, or relevant industry with 7 years of experience as a senior-level manager overseeing complex, matrixed organization.

Master's degree in international development, business administration or a related field is preferred. Experience in Indonesia, Medan or eastern part of Indonesia is highly preferred. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time in the country and internationally to fragile contexts and/or locations. Medical fitness: Fitness to live and travel in rural and urban areas with extreme conditions and limited medical support.

Non-profit ministry experience is a plus. Skills & Competencies Prior experience in a complex, matrixed organization, with the ability to scale processes in a global, professional, service organization. Spiritual wellbeing : Demonstrated personal Christian commitment to serving those who are challenged by poverty and marginalization and in full agreement with FH Christian foundation and beliefs.

Strategic and Operational Leadership : Demonstrated experience working in leadership positions including the development of organizational strategy, ability to exercise budgetary / financial and internal controls systems analysis, and capacity building policy development and enforcement. Programmatic proficiency: Demonstrated knowledge of field-based health and nutrition, risk and resilience, and food security and livelihoods sectors in a relief and development context; Proven ability to create and execute organizational strategy that advances corporate values, vision, and purpose.

Representation: Proven ability to build relationships, negotiate and partner with national and international governments, aid agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector. Relational skills : A ble to relate to understand, appreciate, and effectively communicate with people from different cultures, diverse backgrounds and perspectives and make them feel welcome, included, and valued.

Demonstrated appreciation for and familiarity with a relational style of work and management. Communication : Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization. Integrity : Ability to lead with integrity, candor, honesty, and sensitivity.

Wellbeing : Experience developing organizational resilience, employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives. Managing change : Substantial proven ability in successfully managing and leading organizational development and change, including culture change. Diversity and inclusion : Substantial experience with leading, promoting and working in a diverse, inclusive, cross-cultural environment.

Organizational skills : Excellent organizational skills; ability to plan and coordinate the efficient flow of projects and processes. Analysis : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Super visor Responsibilities Directly supervises staff. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
