Job description
Position Summary
CAM Integrated Solutions (CAM) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to help establish and lead the mechanical engineering function within its new Data Center Division. This role will focus on the design and delivery of highly reliable, energy-efficient cooling systems for mission-critical facilities. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for developing mechanical design standards, guiding project execution, and supporting strategic growth in the data center market.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the Mechanical Technical Authority for data center projects, overseeing HVAC and cooling system design, integration, and commissioning. Lead the design and review of mission-critical cooling systems, including chilled water plants, air-cooled systems, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, and direct-to-chip or liquid cooling solutions.
Develop and standardize mechanical system designs to support scalability, efficiency, and redundancy (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1). Collaborate with electrical and controls teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and power systems. Optimize designs for energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability (PUE optimization 1.
5 or less). Support fast-track and modular delivery approaches, including prefabricated and skid-based cooling systems. Engage directly with clients to define project requirements, present solutions, and lead technical discussions. Evaluate and coordinate with key vendors (OEMs for chillers, cooling towers, CRAH units, pumps, etc.)
Lead design reviews, constructability assessments, and commissioning planning. Mentor mechanical engineers and establish best practices within the organization. Support proposal development and business growth efforts in the data center sector.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred. 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with a focus on mission-critical facilities. Deep understanding of data center cooling strategies and redundancy configurations. Strong knowledge of ASHRAE guidelines and data center environmental standards.
Experience with large-scale chilled water and/or air-cooled systems. Proven ability to lead multi-discipline coordination and deliver complex projects. Strong communication and client engagement skills. Preferred Experience Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center design. Familiarity with ASHRAE TC 9.9 recommendations.
Experience with liquid cooling and next-generation thermal management technologies. Background in EPC or design-build project environments. Why CAM? Join CAM at a pivotal moment as we expand into the data center market. This role offers the opportunity to build a best-in-class mechanical engineering capability, influence major infrastructure projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of a growing division.
