Cashier

Position Summary

The Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and processing all sales transactions accurately and efficiently at the Pharmacy. This position serves as a key point of contact for patients and customers, creating a welcoming and professional experience at every interaction. The cashier supports front-end pharmacy operations and contributes to the overall success of the community pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Transactions & Cash Handling Process customer purchases including over-the-counter products, pharmacy items, and general merchandise. Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently. Handle cash, credit cards, debit cards, and electronic payment methods. Issue receipts, refunds, and exchanges in compliance with store policies.

Reconcile cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift. Report any cash discrepancies or transaction errors to the supervisor immediately. Customer Service Greet all customers and patients with a friendly and professional demeanor. Assist customers in locating products and answer general product inquiries. Direct pharmacy-related or clinical questions to the pharmacist.

Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally and escalate to management as needed. Maintain the front-end area clean, organized, and stocked. Store Support & Administrative Duties Assist with stocking shelves, facing products, and maintaining proper product displays. Monitor inventory levels on the sales floor and communicate replenishment needs to management.

Process insurance co-payments for prescription pickups. Perform opening and closing procedures as directed by management. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience One (1) year of cashier, retail, or customer service experience preferred. Experience in a pharmacy or healthcare retail environment is a plus. Technical Skills Basic proficiency with POS systems and electronic payment processing. Basic computer and data entry skills.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Working Conditions Retail pharmacy environment with frequent customer interaction. May be required to stand for extended periods during work shifts. May work evenings, weekends, or holidays based on store schedule. Fast-paced environment during peak hours. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of standing at the cashier station.

Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate the POS system and handle merchandise. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone. Ability to read product labels, receipts, and computer screens. Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. Equal Opportunity Employer
