Technical Superintendent (Asia)

Singapore, SGFull-timePosted Sep 29, 2026

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Fleet Technical Director, the Technical Superintendent works with considerable independence and initiative and takes full technical ownership of assigned vessels operating in and supported from the Asia-Pacific region. You will keep your vessels safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective, and serve as the primary technical link between the office, the ships, and our shipyards and service providers across Asia. This is a hands-on role for a seasoned marine engineer who is comfortable spending significant time overseas, working on an Asia-aligned schedule, and developing shipboard talent as much as solving technical problems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A Technical Superintendent that provides full technical management and daily support for assigned vessels in line with Class, Flag, Statutory and Company requirements and our ISM/SMS procedures.

Plans, oversees and coordinates maintenance, repairs, dry-dockings and surveys, including on-site attendance at shipyards and ports in Asia-Pacific locations, ensuring hull and machinery meet applicable codes and standards.

A Technical Superintendent that travels regularly to Asia for vessel attendance, shipyard periods, surveys and vendor meetings, with trips that may last weeks or months at a time.

Monitors vessel performance and drives follow-up actions to resolution.

Owns vessel budgets and operating expenditures and explains variances to management.

A Technical Superintendent that visits vessels regularly to assess condition, compliance and maintenance; prepares Vessel Condition Reports and leads shipboard safety meetings.

Coaches, mentors and trains Chief Engineers; helps recruit and select Chief Engineer candidates and recommends promotions to 1st Assistant Engineer and Chief Engineer.

A Technical Superintendent that partners with HSQE, Crewing, Operations and Procurement in the U.S., and with shipyards, agents and vendors in Asia; evaluates vessel requisitions and provides technical guidance.

Serves as the U.S. office's primary technical contact during Asian business hours, bridging communication between the region and the West Palm Beach team.

Supports audits and incident investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, naval architecture or a related maritime discipline; maritime academy graduates strongly preferred.

8+ years of marine engineering experience, including seagoing service as a licensed engineering officer.

USCG Chief Engineer or 1st Assistant Engineer license (or equivalent STCW certificate) strongly preferred.

Shoreside superintendent or assistant superintendent experience preferred.

Proven experience planning and managing dry-dockings and major repairs.

Strong working knowledge of Class, Flag, USCG and IMO requirements, including ISM.

Budget management experience and comfort with Office 365.

Clear communicator who sets high standards and builds strong relationships with officers, crew and vendors.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, pass a post-offer background check, and obtain a TWIC within three months of hire.

This position supports vessels and partners in Asian time zones, and the schedule is built around that. When based in the U.S., the selected Technical Superintendent will work a modified schedule that overlaps with Asian business hours, with in-office time at our West Palm Beach headquarters to collaborate with the U.S. team. When traveling, the candidate will work local business hours at the vessel, shipyard or port. This position is expected to work outside normal hours during dry-dockings, critical deadlines, casualties or other time-sensitive situations.
