Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Lansing has openings for an energetic Lead Aftercare Teacher to join our team. Position Summary

The Aftercare Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for preschool-aged children participating in the school's after-care program. The individual will supervise children during afternoon activities, promote positive social interactions, and support the Catholic mission and values of the preschool.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a love for working with young children, strong communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a caring and faith-filled community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide attentive supervision to children ages 3-5 during after-care hours. Ensure the safety, well-being, and security of all children at all times. Assist children with bathroom needs, snacks, and age-appropriate self-help skills as needed. Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios in accordance with state licensing regulations Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities, including arts and crafts, games, stories, outdoor play, and quiet-time activities.

Encourage positive social interactions, cooperation, and respect among children. Support children's emotional, physical, social, and spiritual development. Prepare materials and clean up activity areas as needed Maintain positive and professional relationships with children, families, and staff. Communicate daily with parents regarding children's activities, behavior, and well-being.

Report concerns, accidents, or incidents promptly to the Preschool Director. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming after-care environment. Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and licensing requirements. Assist with setting up and closing down after-care spaces.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred. Previous experience working with preschool-aged children preferred. Ability to supervise and engage young children in a group setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism.

Practicing Catholic with commitment to supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church. Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout the day. Certifications/Requirements CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Completion of required diocesan safe environment training and background checks. Compliance with all state licensing and diocesan requirements.
