Intervention Teacher (Literacy and Math) Elementary Level Lewiston Public Schools Job Title Intervention Teacher (Literacy and Math) Reports To Building Principal Approved By J. Langlais, Superintendent Effective Date October 2, 2026 Status Full-time, salaried Salary Range $45,518.26 � $85,857.57 annually Position Summary Lewiston Public Schools is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Intervention Teacher to provide targeted, evidence-based intervention in literacy and mathematics for students in grades K�6.
The Intervention Teacher is an integral member of the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Team. The teacher works with classroom teachers, specialists, administrators, and families to identify student needs, deliver responsive interventions, and monitor progress toward individual learning goals. The position plays a critical role in the school's commitment to making sure every student, including multilingual learners, receives the right support, at the right time, in the right setting.
Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference. Intervention works only when it is delivered consistently, and students' Tier 2 and Tier 3 sessions are scheduled every school day.
Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, along with scheduled MTSS meetings and professional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Intervention and instruction Deliver targeted small-group and individual intervention sessions in literacy and/or mathematics to students identified through the MTSS process as needing Tier 2 or Tier 3 support. Implement research-based, structured intervention programs in literacy and mathematics with fidelity.
Differentiate instruction for a diverse student population, including multilingual learners and students with varied learning profiles. Develop and carry out individualized intervention plans aligned with each student's assessed needs and learning goals. MTSS collaboration and data Serve as an active member of the school's MTSS Team, taking part in regular meetings, student support planning, and data review cycles.
Collect, record, analyze, and present progress monitoring data to guide instruction and tier placement. Work with the MTSS Team and administration to identify students who need intervention and to evaluate how well current supports are working. Help develop and carry out student intervention plans, including goals, progress monitoring timelines, and exit criteria.
Collaboration and communication Partner closely with classroom teachers to align intervention with the Tier 1 core curriculum in literacy and mathematics. Consult regularly with classroom teachers so intervention goals are reinforced in the general education classroom. Communicate proactively and consistently with families about student progress, intervention strategies, and ways to support learning at home.
Professional responsibilities Keep accurate, thorough records for each student served, including assessment data, intervention logs, and progress notes. Take part in ongoing professional development in evidence-based literacy and mathematics intervention. Stay current with research and best practices in intervention, MTSS, and culturally responsive instruction.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture that reflects Connors' core values and beliefs. Take part in school-wide events, programs, and initiatives that support the growth and well-being of all students. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises students during intervention sessions. No supervisory responsibility for staff.
Qualifications

Education, certification, and experience Bachelor's degree Valid Maine teaching certificate required [with an elementary or literacy specialist endorsement] At least three years of elementary teaching experience preferred Experience delivering literacy and/or mathematics interventions in a school setting strongly preferred Familiarity with MTSS frameworks, progress monitoring tools, and data-driven instruction preferred Experience working with multilingual learners and diverse student populations preferred Completed criminal history record check (fingerprinting), as required by Maine law Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Knowledge, skills, and abilities Strong understanding of structured literacy and evidence-based mathematics intervention.
Ability to analyze student data and use it to drive instructional decisions. Excellent collaboration and communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage records, data systems, and multiple student caseloads.
A culturally responsive mindset with a deep commitment to equity and inclusion. Proficiency with technology for instruction, data analysis, and communication. Ability to perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.
Compensation
and Benefits The salary range for this position is $45,518.26 to $85,857.57 annually, with placement on the teacher salary schedule based on education and experience. The work environment is a dynamic elementary school with a moderate noise level. The Intervention Teacher works in multiple settings, including small-group spaces, classrooms, and common areas throughout the building, and is responsible for the safety and well-being of students during sessions.
