Traveling Landfill Site Supervisor-Mass Excavation

The Assignment

Oak Hill Contractors LLC is hiring a Traveling Landfill Site Supervisor-Mass Excavation to lead field execution of landfill cell earthwork. This senior, onsite role exists to keep production moving while meeting plans, grades, and safety expectations across varying job locations.

Key responsibilities include

supervising mass excavation and grading; coordinating crews and heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, scrapers/tractor pans, haul trucks, motor graders, skid steers); managing cut/fill, hauling, placement, spreading, and compaction; verifying subgrade readiness for liner work; directing earthwork for drainage/leachate systems and cover soil; tracking grades/elevations; and partnering with the Superintendent to solve field issues quickly.

Required qualifications/skills:

• Strong large-scale dirt-work, excavation, and landfill cell earthwork experience
• GPS/machine control familiarity and plan/spec reading
• OSHA 30; MSHA experience; MSHA 5000-23 Surface Miner certification
• Heavy equipment operating background and multi-machine coordination

On the Ground

You’ll start early at the active cell, review the day’s targets with the Superintendent, then walk key areas to confirm access, conditions, and upcoming grade checks. From there, you’ll stay mobile-moving between cut areas, haul routes, and finish-grade zones-answering questions in real time and keeping communication clear with operators and inspectors. You’ll spend part of the day checking GPS surfaces and stakes, adjusting the plan as conditions change, and documenting progress so the next shift starts clean. Most days end with a quick look-ahead for tomorrow’s sequencing before you wrap up.
