Quality Engineering Lead

Quality Engineering Lead Technology | Hybrid Role Summar y The Quality Engineering Lead will own Vave’s quality engineering approach and matrix manage the Test Automation Engineers. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining people management, test strategy and automation engineering across Vave’s API-first insurance platform and supporting web applications.

You will set clear standards, own the framework, work with developers & product teams to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle. You will remain actively involved in automation, release readiness and the investigation of complex defects. Key Responsibilitie s

• Own quality engineering: Define a pragmatic, risk-based test strategy, quality standards and release readiness criteria across delivery teams.
• Lead the team: Manage, coach and develop the Test Automation Engineers.
• Drive automation: Guide the design and maintenance of automated tests for APIs, web applications, backend services and supporting platforms, including functional, integration and regression coverage.
• Embed testing in delivery: Ensure automated tests run effectively within CI/CD pipelines and strengthen shift-left testing within Agile teams.
• Assure requirements: Work with developers and product teams to improve acceptance criteria, testability, coverage and edge-case analysis.
• Improve outcomes: Use meaningful quality measures to improve release confidence, reduce escaped defects and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Support delivery: Review automation, investigate complex defects and production issues, and provide hands-on testing support for high-risk changes.
• Promote innovation: Define risk-based testing for AI-enabled systems, covering output quality, consistency, robustness and data protection. Apply AI-assisted approaches where they provide secure, controlled and measurable improvements to test design, automation or analysis.

• Experience leading and developing test automation or quality engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on experience designing automated tests for backend systems, REST APIs or distributed platforms.
• Strong hands-on programming experience in C# is essential; JavaScript/ TypeScript experience is secondary.
• Ability to define risk-based test strategies and translate functional and non-functional requirements into effective test coverage.
• Strong understanding of Agile software delivery and close collaboration with developers and product teams.
• Clear communication, stakeholder management and analytical problem-solving skills. Technical Environment Core testing technologies include C# for test automation, Playwright for web UI and end-to-end testing, b. Unit for Blazor component testing, and JMeter for performance and load testing. JavaScript/ TypeScript are also in use. C#/ JavaScript Test automation frameworks Postman SQL and data validation REST APIs Azure-hosted applications and services Gherkin / BDD Event-driven architectures CI/CD pipelines Preferred experience
• Insurance, financial services, fintech or other complex transactional platforms.
• Performance, resilience, contract, compatibility or security testing.
• Experience evaluating and testing AI-enabled systems
• AI-enabled testing approaches and tools.
• ISTQB or equivalent practical experience.
