Registered Nurse (RN) Operating Room

The Operating Room RN (Circulator) provides nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative continuum. This role involves coordinating patient care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and technicians, ensuring a sterile and safe environment, and advocating for the patient while under anesthesia.

Key Responsibilities:**

• Perioperative Assessment:** Perform thorough preoperative assessments and prepare the operating room, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and instruments are functional and sterile.

• Intraoperative Care:** Function as a circulating nurse, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, assisting with positioning, maintaining aseptic technique, and documenting patient care meticulously.

• Patient Advocacy:** Act as a patient advocate, ensuring safety and comfort while the patient is anesthetized.

• Collaboration:** Coordinate with surgeons and anesthesia providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgical procedures.

• Specialized Care:** Support surgical specialties including Cancer Care, orthopedics, and neurosurgery.

Qualifications:**

• Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.

• Previous Operating Room experience strongly preferred, ideally in an acute care setting.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills to align with Sentara’s compassionate care standards.
