JOB DESCRIPTION: Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher, while using their unique skills and abilities to help with the teaching of programs in areas like English Language Arts (ELA), math, science, social studies, foreign languages, arts, crafts, music, and similar subjects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects Provide individual students or small groups of students with academic support related to specific needs as identified by an IEP. Assists teachers in the implementation of an IEP and student specific goals. Record and maintain student’s simple records and information Record and maintain student’s simple records and information which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences Assist pupils in the use of available instructional and technological resources that support instruction and individualized expectations Assist in related instructional work as required Assist students with specific health related activities as appropriate When working in a Special Education classroom, employees may be required to perform the following tasks: Toileting needs Feeding needs Lifting students when needed Pushing students in assistive devices (e.

g. wheelchairs) POSITION HOURS: 37.5 hours per week, 10 months per year CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS: New York State Level I, Level II, Level III, Pre-Professional, or Continuing teaching assistant certificate is required. The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $104.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE: The current new hire salary for certified SCSD Teaching Assistants is $31,977 annually ($21.32 per hour) per Unit 8 contractual agreement. Uncertified Teaching Assistants will be compensated $29,143 ($19.43 per hour) while working toward certification.
