Typical Schedule: This is a full-time faculty position to begin July 2027. Purpose: H oly Cross College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure track) to begin July 2027. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching undergraduate students, including students in Holy Cross College’s Moreau College Initiative, which provides education in the liberal arts to incarcerated men at Westville Correctional Facility, about forty-five miles west of the main campus.

The successful candidate will also teach courses in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Program of Priestly Formation, including the history of ancient and medieval philosophy, philosophy of nature, philosophical anthropology, and natural theology. Holy Cross’s multi-national faculty, staff, and student body collaborate to create a unique learning environment, where mission permeates our approach to student formation.

Essential Job Duties : All administrators, faculty and staff are called to assist students in their formation to be Christ-like students and thus must embrace and advance the Holy Cross mission of the College in all professional activities. Assist students in seeing the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition to this particular field of study and to guide students in scholarly conversation about this topic.

Teach eight undergraduate philosophy courses (24 credit-hours) per year, four on the main campus and four at the Westville Correctional Facility. Conduct office hours on campus Meet regularly with the Director of the Philosophy Program, the Chair of the Humanities Department, and the Director of the Moreau College Initiative Participate in the life of the College by serving on administrative committees and attending important events such as, Welcome Weekend, Opening Mass, Faculty-Staff Convocation, Constitution Day, Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement.

Assume leadership and service roles as they emerge in the Philosophy Program, the Department of Humanities, and the College. Other responsibilities as may be assigned to meet the needs of the Program, Department, and College. Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability: A Ph.D. (or ABD) in Philosophy is required. Previous college teaching experience preferred.

Positive work experience in a Catholic college/university preferred Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. Proven experience that shows promise of success teaching incarcerated students in an in carceral setting A vivid, ongoing, open-minded appreciation of the liberal arts.
