Referral Specialist
Job description
Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Referral Specialist performs scheduling, paperwork and coordination duties when a referral is being made for a specialist or a test outside of the Health Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedules patient appointments with outside specialists and for outside tests; copies, prepares and forwards medical records as appropriate; records referrals in computer log. Assists with obtaining insurance referrals and documentation; obtains pre-authorization for tests as needed. Notifies patients of appointment dates, times and other important information.
Notifies scheduling of follow up appointments. Notified provider(s) if referral appointment is going to be lengthy or is incomplete. Monitors referral sheets for timely retrieval of outside office notes. Prepares monthly tracking reports for administration. Work independently to obtain referrals both via computer, telephone, or any other sources required to obtain referral/scheduling.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides backup for other departments as needed. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Be committed to the mission of the Bucksport Regional Health Center. Work as a member of the clinical team in the performance of duties. Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.
Work in harmonious relationships with all staff, patients, vendors and others. Perform duties in a conscientious, cooperative manner. Perform required amount of work in a timely fashion with a minimum of errors. Be neat and maintain a professional appearance. Maintain confidentiality and protect the Center by keeping information concerning Operations, patients and employees confidential.
Participation in community activities as a representative of Bucksport Regional Health Center.

Eye hand coordination and manual dexterity required. The employee must occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, stretch or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those the incumbent encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential: At least one year of experience performing clerical or administrative work in a healthcare setting preferred. 1 year experience with electronic referral process. Electronic medical record experience preferred. Computer experience using Microsoft Office software products preferred.
Ability to communicate and present information. Ability to work independently and efficiently with multiple priorities.
Education
The following education requirements are considered essential: High School diploma or equivalent with emphasis on office and business skills including, keyboarding, filing, and multi-tasking, required. All requirements and skills are considered to be essential, unless otherwise indicated.
