Position Summary
Best Friends Animal Society is on a mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. In Los Angeles, that mission comes to life through the stories of the pets we meet, both at our Pet Adoption Center and with the shelters and rescue groups we partner with across the region. This role captures those stories: pets who need fosters, pets ready for adoption, and pets who've found their homes.
You'll be behind the camera for all of it, at the Center and out in the field with our partners. Culture Statement and Responsibility: We believe in treating everyone with kindness and compassion, building trust through authenticity and following through on commitments. We prioritize well-being alongside our mission, fostering strong relationships through open communication and transparent feedback.
Diversity and inclusion are integral to our culture, enriching team dynamics by valuing diverse perspectives. Each team member is responsible for creating an inclusive environment where all voices are respected and contributing to a workplace that embodies our shared values and commitment to progress. By consistently aligning our actions with our Guiding Principles, we strengthen our culture and ensure that our values are lived every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Capture and Create Content Across LA and Community Partners: As part of the LA marketing team, capture photo and video content at the LA Pet Adoption Center, at events, and onsite with community partner organizations, including local shelters and rescue groups, covering pets who need fosters, pets available for adoption, and pets who've found homes.
Partner with the Programs team to find and develop the next story. Edit and Produce Ready-to-Post Content: Edit raw photo and video into content that's on-brand but still feels real, not overproduced. Know what makes a strong shot and how to edit it into something worth posting. Post Content and Track What's Working: Post content to Instagram and Facebook as part of the LA team's social presence, staying on top of platform trends.
Use performance and analytics tools to see what's resonating and apply what you learn to future content. Support Media and Influencer Relationships: Work with the National social media team to identify and coordinate with influencers, whether they come from local connections or get routed through National. Help manage on-site visits and content when influencers come to the LA Pet Adoption Center or partner locations.
Work with the local and national PR teams to facilitate media opportunities on and off site, appearing on camera to represent the Best Friends brand as needed. Moderate Comments and Engage with Our Community: Monitor and respond to comments and messages across Instagram and Facebook in a timely, on-brand voice. Flag anything that needs a closer look from the team.
Skills and Experience: Content Creation, Storytelling & Editing: 2-4 years shooting and editing both static and video content, with a strong eye for composition, lighting and narrative storytelling. Comfortable with editing tools, and you know how to turn raw footage into something ready to post. Social Media Experience: 2-4 years working in social media or content roles, with hands on experience posting to Instagram and Facebook and a solid understanding of how each platform works.
Trend Awareness: You pay attention to what's working on social media and bring fresh ideas instead of waiting to be told what to post. Pet Content Experience: Experience creating content featuring animals is a plus, not required. Cultural Fluency: Comfortable creating content for LA's diverse audiences. Spanish bilingual skills are a plus, not required.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Comfortable working across teams, Programs, National social, local partners, and adjusting as priorities shift. Physical Requirements: Lift up to 40 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending.
Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion. Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Comfort working in and around active shelter environments, including facilities where animals are at risk. This is the reality of rescue work, and it’s what drives everything we do.
Must have a valid driver's license that has been in good standing for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance.
