Field Builder Associate

London, Greater LondonFull-timePosted Oct 10, 2026

Job description

About LISA The London Initiative for Safe AI (LISA) advances AI safety for the public benefit and reduces the risks of global catastrophic harms from advanced AI systems. We run a members-led AI safety hub in central London that brings together organisations, individual researchers, and upskilling programmes, all working to make the transition to advanced AI go well.

Our space hosts some of the brightest minds pioneering AI safety research, from research non-profits, academics and startup founders to government officials and AI safety staff at organisations like Anthropic, Google Deep. Mind, OpenAI and the UK AI Security Institute. Alongside the hub, we work on the field itself: bringing new people into AI safety, strengthening the organisations already working on it, and driving collaboration across the field.

The role LISA is growing fast, and so is the need for people to work on AI safety. Since the start of the year, the number of people coming to our space has doubled, and that growth is set to continue. Getting good people into the field, and into the right roles once they are here, needs someone to own it properly. We are recruiting a Field Builder Associate to own how LISA brings people into AI safety and supports them into roles, from the first time someone hears about the field to the day they start a job in it.

This role has real range. One week you might be running an event for people new to AI safety, drafting the case for a new fellowship, or sitting with a hiring organisation to work out what they actually need. Another week you might be deep in a talent partnership, or helping a programme to expand its reach and impact.

It is outward-facing from day one and puts you at the centre of the field. We expect this role to accelerate your AI safety career. You’ll work alongside people at world-leading AI safety organisations, build relationships across the field, and grow your role here as LISA scales.

What you'll do

Bring new people into the field Work out which talent pools to target and how best to reach each one, including those we are not touching today Design and run the formats that bring them in, from events and talks to targeted outreach, and give everyone an obvious next step Judge what is working by who comes back, and put the effort behind the channels bringing in the right people Get people ready, and help them into roles Identify what people need to become hireable in the field, and whether we build that ourselves or run it through organisations already doing it well Deliver the interventions that get them there, via partnerships where it makes sense Help prepared people land roles, through coaching, talent partnerships and placement work, staying close enough to hiring organisations to know what they need and when Make our field building better Set where our effort goes next: what to trial, what to develop, and what to stop, with a clear reason behind each call Track the impact of your work, from who turns up through to who ends up in a role, and move resources accordingly Build relationships with people entering the field and with the organisations hiring, and use that view to spot gaps before they are obvious About you You know this field - the organisations, the research agendas, the funders, and the routes people take in.

You can have a real conversation with a researcher about their work. A natural connector - you build trust fast with senior, expert people, and you are useful to someone sitting across from you making a career decision. Strategic instinct - you think at the level of the field and can say where an intervention would matter and why.

High agency delivery - you are comfortable with taking in a loosely defined goal and running with it end to end, keeping several threads moving, and you know when to bring others in. Focus on outcomes - you have a strategic mindset and understand what each activity is for, comfortably changing your course when the work changes.

AI is part of how you work - you use AI tools daily, keep finding new uses for them, and know when your own judgement has to do the work. You don’t need to tick every box. If you’ve run a talent pipeline, fellowship, accelerator or community programme before, or worked in or alongside an AI safety organisation or research institute, that will help.

What matters most is that you know this field and how to make things happen within it.

What we offer

A genuine route into AI safety Work directly with leading AI safety organisations and the people in them Learn about cutting-edge AI safety research first-hand Grow your role as LISA scales, shaping how we build the field and building your own reputation in it Benefits £60,000 - £75,000 Pension (10% employer contribution), private medical insurance (including dental and optical), life assurance, critical illness cover, income protection, and annual £500 wellbeing allowance 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Free lunch and dinner each day Work laptop and access to AI tools Real impact Be part of a small, mission-driven team doing work that matters Help bring the people the field needs into it, and see where they get to
