Mobile Mechanic

Job Title: Mobile Mechanic FLSA: Hourly Job Type: Full-Time Department: Maintenance / Operations Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor Job Overview: The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment at various sawmill locations. This role requires hands-on expertise and the ability to work independently in an outdoor environment while ensuring minimal downtime of critical machinery.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of sawmill machinery, including but not limited to conveyors, saw blades, hydraulic systems, motors, and diesel engines. Respond to on-site mechanical issues and emergencies in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime. Conduct inspections to identify mechanical issues and develop solutions to maintain safe and efficient equipment operation.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrications, and parts replacement. Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately diagnose mechanical problems. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained. Provide accurate and detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.

Communicate with the maintenance supervisor and other team members to prioritize work and share updates. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards while on-site. Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and tools necessary for repairs and maintenance.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or training in mechanical systems is preferred. Proven experience (3+ years) as a mobile mechanic, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing setting, with a focus on heavy machinery and equipment repair. Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical problems independently. Experience with welding, fabricating, and general machine repairs is a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Ability to work in all weather conditions and in physically demanding environments. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts if necessary. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Comfortable working in tight, noisy, and high-temperature environments. Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods of time.

Frequent use of hand tools and power tools.
