About the Position The Garment Repair Specialist is responsible for the repair, restoration, and maintenance of X-ray protective garments. This is a hands-on, highly-skilled position responsible for completing both routine and complex garment repairs and ensuring repaired garments meet Rad. Care’s quality standards. This role requires strong sewing and garment construction skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a variety of materials, closures, seams, and garment components.

The Garment Repair Specialist will evaluate damaged garments, determine the appropriate repair approach, carefully deconstruct garments when necessary, complete repairs, and inspect finished work for quality and durability.

Responsibilities

Inspect garments to identify damage, wear, and repair needs, and determine the appropriate repair approach Perform routine and complex repairs, including repairing tears, rips, holes, seams, stitching, hems, and garment edges Deconstruct and reconstruct garments as necessary to access damaged areas and complete repairs Repair or replace garment components, including Velcro, buckles, straps, closures, pockets, and bias tape Restore garments while maintaining proper fit, function, construction, and appearance Operate sewing machines and use hand-sewing techniques based on the garment and type of repair Inspect completed repairs to ensure they are secure, durable, and meet established quality standards Identify garments that may not be suitable for repair and communicate concerns to the appropriate team member Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining consistent quality and meeting established production expectations Maintain an organized, clean, and safe repair workspace and keep sewing equipment and tools in good working condition Maintain required repair documentation and communicate recurring issues, unusual damage, or supply and equipment needs Provide guidance and/or assistance to employees who are cross-trained on basic garment repairs Follow established procedures related to garment handling, quality, safety, and workflow Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Qualifications Demonstrated experience in sewing, garment repair, alterations, upholstery, textile work, or a related hands-on trade Strong understanding of garment construction, including seams, hems, closures, and finishing techniques Experience using a sewing machine and performing hand-sewing techniques Ability to deconstruct and reconstruct garments to complete repairs Ability to troubleshoot repair challenges and determine appropriate repair methods Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently while following established procedures and applying sound judgment Ability to work efficiently in a production-oriented environment Reliable attendance and strong work ethic Ability to adapt to changing priorities, staffing needs, and workload demands Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English Preferred Qualifications Professional or commercial sewing experience Experience operating industrial sewing machines Experience repairing uniforms, protective equipment, medical garments, or other durable materials Experience in a production, manufacturing, healthcare, or service environment Physical Requirements Sit and/or stand for extended periods while performing sewing and repair work Use repetitive motions for sewing, cutting, inspection, and garment handling Maintain attention to detailed stitching, seams, and garment construction Bend, reach, and maneuver garments throughout the repair process Lift, carry, push, and pull garments and materials as needed Safely operate sewing equipment and other tools used in the repair process Company Benefits Competitive salary and benefits package Robust 401(k) program Flexible PTO plan Volunteer Paid Time Off program Opportunity to make a real impact on the company’s success Collaborative and supportive work environment RCS is a core-values driven organization and we’re looking for a candidate that will contribute to our company culture, work hard, and is passionate about driving company growth.
