Materials Development Engineer | Advanced Ceramics & Gas Turbines

Posted Oct 9, 2026

Job description

A Snapshot of Your Day. Join Siemens Energy at the forefront of advanced gas turbine technology, where ceramic materials innovation directly impacts engine performance, efficiency, and reliability. In this hands-on development role, you will lead the advancement of ceramic core materials and manufacturing processes used in the production of complex gas turbine components.

Working across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and design teams, you will develop new ceramic materials, optimize ceramic core production processes, support investment casting operations, and drive technologies from laboratory development through industrial-scale manufacturing. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex materials challenges while helping bring next-generation turbine technologies to market.

How You'll Make an Impact Develop and optimize advanced ceramic materials, feedstocks, and ceramic core formulations for gas turbine applications. Lead process development activities involving ceramic core manufacturing, including injection molding, slip casting, forming, debinding, and sintering. Support and improve investment casting processes through close collaboration with foundry and manufacturing teams.

Design and execute experimental programs to characterize material performance and improve process capability, yield, and quality. Analyze material behavior using microscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, and other advanced characterization techniques. Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve critical-to-function features and component performance.

Support pilot production, new product introduction (NPI), and manufacturing scale-up activities. Identify and resolve technical issues through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Drive industrialization efforts to transition new ceramic core technologies into production environments.

What You Bring. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. 3-8+ years of hands-on experience in ceramic manufacturing and process development. Direct experience with ceramic core manufacturing for investment casting applications.

Direct experience supporting or developing investment casting processes and ceramic core technologies. Hands-on experience with ceramic processing methods including injection molding, slip casting, forming, debinding, and sintering. Experience conducting material characterization using optical microscopy, SEM, thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DTA), density measurement, porosity analysis, and mechanical testing.

Experience planning and executing Design of Experiments (DOE), process development, and materials qualification activities. Demonstrated success supporting technology development, pilot production, manufacturing scale-up, or commercialization efforts. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations.

Excellent communication and project coordination skills. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting gas turbine, aerospace, or high-temperature industrial applications. Experience with ceramic dimensional inspection methods, including CT scanning and 3D metrology. Knowledge of ceramic matrix composites (CMC), refractory ceramics, or high-temperature materials systems. Experience working within integrated product teams (IPT).

Familiarity with statistical process control, process capability analysis, and manufacturing excellence methodologies. Why This Role is Exciting Own critical ceramic core and investment casting technologies that directly impact next-generation gas turbine performance. Lead projects from materials development through full-scale manufacturing implementation.

Collaborate with world-class experts in materials, manufacturing, and turbine technology. Drive innovation in advanced ceramics, high-temperature materials, and industrialization. Make a measurable impact on the future of energy generation.About the Team. Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization.
