- Job Overview Schedule: Monday-Friday (8AM-5PM) As a Pediatrics Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, you will bring compassionate, high-quality care to patients under the supervision of physicians. Key Responsibilities
Initiate an appropriate assessment of the patient's health status, ranging from focused to comprehensive, depending upon the setting, including emergency, structured screening, and scheduled visits. Obtain patients’ health histories through interviews with patients and others and through review of pertinent health records.
Perform physical examinations. Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention, including FQHC-required voluntary family planning services and related preventative health services in compliance with funding requirements and state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Consult with colleagues, supervising Physicians, specialists, and other health professionals as appropriate.
Order pertinent diagnostic tests and procedures. Perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and other procedures within the scope of practice, including venipuncture; intradermal tests; intramuscular and subcutaneous injections; electro-cardiogram; application of dressings and bandages; administration of medications; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; auditory screening; visual screening; and aseptic techniques.
Perform medical procedures including incisions and drainage, wound care, debridement, and suturing of lacerations, and apply and remove casts and traction devices. Collect specimens for and carry out commonly performed blood, urine, and stool analyses and cultures. Interpret health information and establish diagnoses consistent with the accumulated data.
Formulate treatment plans, ensuring timely provision of necessary healthcare services. Order necessary medications and other therapeutic equipment and supplies within the scope of practice. Educate and inform patients regarding the nature of illness and the progress of evaluation and treatment. Educate patients regarding health promotion and disease prevention.
Analyze accumulated health information and collect additional observational, interview, historical, physical examination, and diagnostic data, modifying treatment as appropriate. Make health record entries that are legible, concise, and timely. Advocate for the rights of patients. Provide primary clinical therapy and treatment of individual and groups of patient(s).
Participate in formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures. Participate in various committees to improve the quality of healthcare. Participate in the collection and preparation of reports on patient care activities. Conduct audits related to advanced practice healthcare techniques and take part in quality assurance programs.
Maintain current knowledge in the field of practice and inform staff of changes. Maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. Participate in the Performance Improvement Program. Participate in extended clinic hours, the after-hours on-call program, triaging calls, consulting with providers, and providing appropriate documentation of all client contacts.
Refer complex and high-priority cases to the physician on duty regarding complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, re-evaluation of chronic conditions, and related concerns. Assist in patient education, preventative healthcare, and health maintenance concepts. Participate in IDT. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives. Attend all required safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Attend all required safety education programs.
Operate assigned equipment and perform all procedures in a safe manner as instructed. Maintain the work area and equipment in the condition required by Legacy standards. Demonstrate proper body mechanics in all functions. Check the patient’s environment and equipment to ensure safety. Report safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
Follow Legacy’s exposure control plans for blood-borne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment, including Universal Precautions. Assure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures. Attend annual education programs. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Current license from the Texas Board of Nursing and completion of program at an accredited school or graduation from an accredited program as Physician Assistant and current Texas state licensure or eligibility for licensure Provider shall obtain, maintain and participate in the Medicare and Medicaid Programs, workers’ compensation, other federal and state reimbursement programs, and the payment plan of any commercial insurer, health maintenance organization, preferred provider organization, accountable health plan, and other health benefit program requested by Legacy.
Required Years of Experience 2 years of experience is required. Desirable Education and/or Experience Previous experience in an FQHC clinic setting is preferred, Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Excellent communication skills and customer service skills. Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize.
Demonstrated competency with an EHRS system Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Above average organizational skills.
