Langlais, Superintendent Effective Date 10/2/2026 Status Full-time, hourly Pay Range $20.86 � $28.12 per hour Position Summary The Educational Technician I, II, III assists the Special Education Teacher in delivering the services in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP).
The role is based in the RISE / FLS / Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools. Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference.
RISE /FLS / Day Treatment students depend on consistent staffing to follow their IEPs and PBSPs safely. Regular, predictable attendance on every scheduled school day is therefore required, along with any required professional development days on the district calendar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small-group instruction that meets the needs of complex learners, across all academic and social opportunities in the day. This includes academic instruction, lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks with peers, and transportation. A RISE /FLS/ DT Ed Tech is always with their student(s), unless the IEP or the Special Education Teacher directs otherwise.
Implement and follow each student's IEP and PBSP. Use de-escalation strategies throughout the day. Help set up the classroom and individual student areas, and prepare materials for specialized instruction. Collect relevant data and complete data entry. Help assemble and hang bulletin board materials and keep displays current, as requested.
Operate standard school equipment, such as computers, laminators, copiers, and audiovisual equipment. Follow each student's day-to-day schedule. Give students constant attention during 1:1 and other direct services, including: Refraining from cell phone use except during personal breaks. Dressing appropriately for the role, including closed-toe shoes every day.
Following precautions in each PBSP and as directed by the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, or Clinician. Staying calm in unforeseen circumstances and considering variables that may maintain challenging behavior. Supervisory Responsibilities None. The Ed Tech III provides instruction with the Special Education Teacher in 1:1, 1:2, and small-group settings, in both RISE /FLS / DT and general education classrooms as indicated.
Communication Teamwork is essential to the services RISE /FLS / DT provides, and it starts with professional communication that keeps the environment safe and structured. Written: Legible, professional, and always in the best interest of students. Verbal feedback: Delivered in many ways throughout the day and intended to improve skills and job knowledge.
Following direction: Directions and recommendations from the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration are followed to the greatest extent possible. Among Ed Techs: Communication is appropriate to the setting and the audience present. Education
and/or experience High School Diploma (1), at least 60 college credit hours (II), or 90 college credit hours (III) and Education Technician Certification through the State of Maine Department of Education School-Based Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification Completed TCIS training (provided) Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Language skills Read and understand technical educational instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Write simple correspondence. Present information effectively in 1:1, 1:2, and small-group settings to students, co-teachers, and other school staff. Mathematical skills Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute mean (average), rate, ratio, and percent, and draw bar and line graphs.
Reasoning ability Follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans. Find solutions when plans are exhausted, within applicable law and the methods of Applied Behavior Analysis and QBS Safety-Care. Other skills and abilities Build effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies. Advocate for including RISE students in the general education setting.
Compensation
and Benefits Hourly pay ranges from $20.86 to $28.12. Perform approved de-escalation and behavior response methods (QBS Safety-Care), including physical interventions, as trained and certified. Use close, distance, and peripheral vision, which are essential for reliable data collection. The classroom noise level is usually loud, at a standard level for this setting. The employee is continuously responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
