Preschool Special Education Teacher
Job description
Preschool Special Education Teacher As a Preschool Special Education Teacher, you will be a cornerstone in shaping the early learning journey for children with diverse abilities. Your work will help children build foundational skills—social, emotional, cognitive, and physical—that will set them up for lifelong success.
You’ll also empower families with tools and strategies to support their child’s growth beyond the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each child’s needs, strengths, and goals. Create a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that fosters curiosity and confidence. Use evidence-based instructional strategies, adaptive tools, and sensory-friendly activities to support learning.
Collaborate closely with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to integrate services into daily routines. Track and document student progress, adjusting teaching methods as needed. Communicate regularly with families, offering updates, resources, and encouragement. Model inclusive practices that promote empathy and respect among all students.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred). State certification in Special Education (Early Childhood endorsement a plus). Experience Experience working with preschool-aged children with developmental delays or disabilities.
Knowledge of IEP development, early intervention strategies, and differentiated instruction. Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
Required Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and communicate to team members key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals. Sound decision-making and initiative-taking skills. Requires ability to use abstract reasoning, problem solving, planning, and analytical skills in: Training, evaluation, and program development.
Requires effective interpersonal and oral communication skills for supervisory duties. Requires effective writing and oral communication skills to conduct meetings and to prepare reports that are clear, complete, comprehensive, and use good grammar and punctuation. Requires proficient use of technology, Microsoft word, Outlook, and the ability to acclimate to online portal usage for recording observations, assessments, and lesson planning.
Successful experience working in a team setting. Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community. Other Requirements Must successfully complete a background check. Successful experience working in a team setting, Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community; Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if need; Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax machine, copier, and tablet; Must be able to lift 55 pounds; Experience successfully working with varied staff and program stakeholders.
