Job description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for daily operations of the indoor aquatics facility located at the Gladstone Community Center and the outdoor aquatics facility located adjacent to the Gladstone Community Center in Central Park. This includes staffing all programs and activities, providing in-service training, and developing programs for a variety of aquatic interests.
This position also acts as a liaison with community aquatic directors, the North Kansas City School District and aquatic certifying agencies. This position reports to the Community Center Assistant Administrator. MAJOR DUTIES: Collaborates with the Community Center Assistant Administrator to establish and administer long-range strategic plans and goals for the aquatic facilities.
Ensures quality control, patron service and risk management policies and procedures for the aquatic facilities. Enforces facility policies and procedures consistently for staff and patrons. Evaluates aquatic operations through observation and direct contact with participants as well as by written surveys. Determines needs for the aquatic facilities.
Coordinates and works with other divisions to incorporate system philosophy and policy to promote a rounded and comprehensive department. Responsible for the opening and closing of aquatic facilities. Responsible for day to day and long term maintenance of aquatic facilities. Provides oversight of the maintenance of personnel, payroll records and master files for the operation of the aquatic facilities.
Participates actively in professional organizations related to position. Consults and advises the community regarding aquatics activities and facilities. Performs those activities necessary to insure the safety of participants. Monitors and adjusts chemical balance in the pool. Troubleshoots and adjusts pool mechanical systems as needed.
Coordinates public school, swim team and other groups’ pool time. Prepares and reviews aquatic facility budget. Determines cost effectiveness, attendance and service hours by analyzing revenues and expenditures. Ensures compliance to approved budget. Oversees website and updates for the Aquatics Program. Purchases necessary supplies and equipment using department procedures.
Develops and maintains operational manuals for the aquatic facilities. Performs support tasks for banquet space, department events and/or programs, as needed. Enforces and communicates department policies and procedures. Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays, as assigned. Performs all other related duties, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a Parks and Recreation Administration, Education or related to the occupational field. Minimum of two years of experience in pool operations, lifeguard staff development and aquatic programming. Basic Lifeguard, WSI, CPR, First Aid, and CPR/First Aid Instructor certifications within the first 6-months of employment.
AFO or CPO and LGI certifications within one year of employment. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
