Head Girls Wrestling Coach

Description Coaches in the Port Angeles School District play a critical role in supporting the growth, safety, and well-being of student-athletes within our unique community context. Port Angeles High School is seeking a dynamic, collaborative Head Girls' Wrestling Coach to lead, build, and oversee our growing girls' wrestling program.
Operating as an equal partner alongside the Head Boys' Wrestling Coach, the Head Girls' Wrestling Coach will work in tandem to unify the overall wrestling program under a shared culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and mutual support, while maintaining specialized leadership, advocacy, and strategic vision specifically for the girls' program.
The regular winter wrestling season runs from November 16 through February 20 . During this season, coaches must be available for weekday practices and dual meets, with regular Saturday tournament responsibilities. In addition to the winter competitive season, the successful candidate should be available to support off-season conditioning, recruitment, and summer program development in alignment with WIAA guidelines and our small-town community values.
Qualifications
Previous wrestling playing (scholastic/collegiate) or coaching experience preferred, with specific knowledge of the rapid growth and unique dynamics of girls' high school wrestling. Demonstrated knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, WIAA rules, safe weight management protocols, and positive sportsmanship. Ability to plan and execute effective technique instruction, conditioning programs, and match preparation tailored to female student-athletes.
Collaborative Leadership: Proven ability to work in tandem and communicate seamlessly with the Head Boys' Wrestling Coach, athletic department administration, student-athletes, and parents to present a unified wrestling family. Availability to commit to weekday practice/meet schedules and regular Saturday tournament trips throughout the season (November 16 � February 20).
Willingness and ability to drive school district vans to transport student-athletes safely to away meets and weekend tournaments across the Olympic Peninsula and beyond. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to meet district driver clearance requirements. Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills, including tracking weight certification data and managing program logistics.
Must meet or be willing to obtain all Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and PASD coaching certification requirements. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season. Must be willing to complete all district-required safety, harassment/compliance, and skin condition monitoring training.
Ability to maintain student confidentiality and adhere strictly to district and school policies. Must be at least 21 years of age. Core Responsibilities In accordance with the Port Angeles School District Coaches Handbook and WIAA guidelines, the Head Girls' Wrestling Coach is responsible for fulfilling the following 11 Core Duties with respect to the girls' program, while coordinating facility use and practice scheduling cooperatively with the Head Boys' Coach: Duty to Warn � Inform athletes and parents of inherent risks associated with wrestling, including safe weight management and communicable skin conditions.
Duty to Provide Appropriate Activities � Ensure conditioning, live wrestling, and technique drills match the physical readiness and skill level of the athletes. Duty to Provide Safe Facilities � Inspect wrestling mats, practice spaces, and venue conditions for hygiene and safety hazards prior to every practice and meet, working cooperatively with the boys' coaching staff.
Duty to Provide Safe Equipment � Ensure team gear, headgear, and mats are properly disinfected, maintained, and stored to prevent health risks. Duty to Train and Instruct � Provide safe, current, and effective instruction on wrestling technique, weight maintenance, and rules to prevent injury and promote athlete development.
Duty to Supervise � Maintain strict supervision of student-athletes in the wrestling room, locker rooms, weigh-in areas, and during travel. Duty to Provide Proper Discipline � Maintain athletic decorum, sportsmanship, and appropriate behavior in alignment with school and WIAA policies, representing Port Angeles with dignity in our community and on the road.
Duty to Safe Transportation � Drive district vans to transport team members safely to and from away duals and weekend tournaments in compliance with district transportation policies. Duty to Keep Athletes Safe and Healthy � Monitor hydration, safe weight management protocols, communicable skin diseases, and environmental conditions.
Duty to Provide Appropriate Emergency Care � Respond promptly to mat injuries with basic first aid and execute emergency action plans when necessary. Duty to Document and Report � Timely log match results, skin check documentation, injury reports, and administrative records as required by the athletic department.
