Job Description DEFINITION: Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Behavior Assistant will provide support one to one to a student with behavioral issues. The Behavior Assistant will implement comprehensive positive behavioral support plans and effective behavior management strategies; deliver instructions; participate as a member of the educational team, and help design and implement all components of the student's individual program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of classroom instruction and behavior support. • Implement Behavior Strategic Plan/Behavior Intervention Plan. • Implement behavior strategies. • Support students throughout the school day including recess and lunch. • Supervise students throughout the school day in classrooms, during educational activities, and during recess and lunch. • Consult and collaborate with site staff. • Assist in student assessments as appropriate. • Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate. • Maintain appropriate documentation, records, and reports. • Participate in developing data collection systems, and monitor data collection to ensure the success of the behavior plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Certification in the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) in non-violent crisis interventions is desired. • First Aid and CPR training required (training available through the district).
Knowledge of: • Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics, particularly pertaining to pupils with special learning needs. • Behavior management strategies and techniques relating to pupils experiencing behavioral difficulties. • Positive behavioral interventions and applied behavior analysis. • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. • Basic mathematical concepts. • Routine record storage, retrieval, and management procedures.
Ability to: • Work with students having special needs and/or aggressive behaviors (i.e. biting, kicking, hitting, emotional outburst, etc.). • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups, and varied disabilities. • Appropriately manage student behavior and guide student toward more acceptable social behaviors. • Implement positive behavior support plans. • Model appropriate behavioral interventions. • Communicate effectively in oral and written form. • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment. • Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a training and educational environment. • Understand and carry out oral and written directions. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults. • Work with staff in developing data collection systems, and monitor data collection to ensure the success of the behavior plan.

Belmont Middle School will continue the tradition of emphasizing the importance of community service for all, through programs such as the Gobble Wobble Food Drive, assistance for families in need, the Jump Rope for Heart, and more.
To increase parent/teacher/student/administration communication. As a staff we will continue to explore every possible scenario to increase parent/teacher/student/administration collaborative communication.
To continue an emphasis on literacy. Belmont Middle School will explore all avenues to increase 1-1 and small group interactions for the benefit of literacy growth for all students. In addition, reading workshop, Title I summer school, creatively addressing instructional time through changes in the schedule and increasing parent involvement, are but a few ideas for advancing literacy instruction/learning.
To explore all avenues to ensure student success on the SAS testing. Staff, students and parents will work together to ensure that our students understand the importance of the SAS testing and make every possible adjustment to ensure that students are successful on the SASs.

Job Requirements This is a 6.5 hour per school-day position and qualifies for district-sponsored benefits including district contribution toward health insurance plus fully paid dental, life and long-term disability; as well as sick time, and personal time. This position is for 184 days which includes 178 school days, 1 workshop day before school begins, 1 workshop day as assigned by the district and 4 paid holidays.
