Bus Mechanic

Description Position Overview : The Blake bus mechanic is responsible for Blake’s bus maintenance program. This includes vehicle repair, preventative inspections, pre-trip inspection training, parts purchasing, service coordination with vendors and daily entry of maintenance data into the database.

Requirements

Service school bus fleet with mechanical repair and replacement of parts Purchase school bus parts to adequately supply needed repairs Maintain inventory as needed Coordinate and transport school buses for repair to and from vendor locations Record all maintenance-related repairs and inspections of the bus fleet into Blake’s maintenance system Perform periodic inspections on buses as directed Train and evaluate transportation team members on proper school bus pre-trip inspection procedures and techniques Provide emergency backup bus driving services on an on-call basis Other duties as assigned by the supervisor of transportation Experience and Skills: Required Qualifications: Strong knowledge of large diesel engine mechanics and repair techniques; experience working with school buses preferred Strong ability to align priorities and produce quality work under pressure Strong mechanical problem-solving skills Basic computer knowledge Preferred Qualifications: Basic understanding of Minnesota school bus compliance standards—pre-inspection guidelines preferred Licensed school bus driver—MN Class B (including passenger and school bus endorsements) One to three years, CDL-qualified driving experience (school bus driving experience) Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor work is required Must be able to assess situations and obtain parts for installation and/or diagnose issues requiring the bus to be taken to an approved diesel (bus) mechanic Physical Requirements: Must be able to safely lift bus equipment and parts and get up and down from under a bus and various areas of the bus interior Disclaimer: The information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
