• Prospect Heights, IL, Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.23Hourly, FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Employment Type: Seasonal, Part-Time Department: Recreation Reports To: Recreation Supervisor Supervises: None Pay Range: The starting hiring range is $15.00 - $16.61 per hour dependent on experience and education. Full pay range for this position is $15.00 - $18.23 per hour. Summary: The Van / Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of program participants between the Park District, designated pick-up locations, and program or event sites. This position ensures participant safety while providing courteous, professional service in support of programs and special events. Work Schedule: This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Work hours will vary based on program participation and operational needs and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends and late-night hours, up to midnight.

Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and Park District transportation policies and procedures. Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns promptly. Assist participants during vehicle loading and unloading to ensure safety. Transport program supplies, equipment, and luggage for special trips as needed.

Maintain accurate trip logs, incident reports, and required transportation documentation. Maintain cleanliness and general condition of assigned vehicles. Respond appropriately to emergency situations while prioritizing participant safety. Serve as a positive representative of the Park District when interacting with participants, parents/guardians, and the public.

Perform all job tasks in compliance with the District’s safety program and guidelines. Complete other duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Minimum age of twenty-one (21) years. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License for a minimum of one (1) year. Ability to successfully pass required pre-employment and random drug testing. Required to complete Defensive Driving training prior to or shortly after hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of safe driving practices and applicable traffic laws and regulations.

Ability to safely operate vans or buses in varying traffic, weather, and road conditions. Ability to maintain focus and attention during extended driving periods. Communicate clearly and professionally with participants, staff, and the public. Exercise sound judgment and maintain safety awareness at all times. Follow verbal and written instructions, policies, and procedures.

Respond calmly and effectively to emergency or stressful situations. Physical, Cognitive and Environmental Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle. Ability to safely enter and exit vehicles multiple times throughout a shift. Ability to assist with loading, unloading, and securing equipment or personal items, as required.

Ability to maintain alertness, concentration, and situational awareness while driving. Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, and emergency personnel. Ability to work in loud or stressful situations and respond appropriately. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including rain, heat, cold, and snow.
