Wakefield, RIFull-timePosted Aug 25, 2026

Job description

As a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, South County Health is part of a select group of independent healthcare organizations carefully vetted by Mayo Clinic and granted special access to Mayo Clinic#s knowledge, expertise, and resources. South County Health physicians and providers can consult directly with Mayo Clinic specialists when additional input may benefit their patients and access clinical resources, education, and professional development opportunities that complement their local expertise - including insights from more than 25 million unique Mayo Clinic clinical encounters through the Mayo Clinic Platform.

This relationship provides our physicians and providers additional tools and resources that support the high-quality, patient-centered care already available in the community - at no additional cost, eliminating the need for patients to travel outside Rhode Island for second opinions and specialty consultations. The Department of Hospital Medicine at South County Hospital is seeking a Nocturnist physician.

Full-FTE role available (12 nights per month), will consider Part-FTE role (minimum 6 nights per month). Join a collegial hospital-employed group with a longstanding history of low provider turnover at an independently-operated non-profit community hospital with robust specialty service lines. Live and practice in an idyllic coastal New England area, with the hospital overlooking a salt-pond marina.

Nocturnist scheduled from 7:00PM to 7:00AM. Not responsible for creating/assigning a daytime rounding list. Sign out directly to the Hospitalist Rounders at 7:00AM and go. Alleviated start-of-shift volume without built-up pending admissions. A Hospitalist Admitter is scheduled daily from 11:00AM to 9:00PM. Provides a two-hour overlap with the start of the nocturnist shift.

Meditech EMR with Vocera Secure Messaging, with coming upgrade to Epic EMR and an agentic AI/Scribe implementation. Responsible for overnight admissions/consults to hospital medicine services. Variable volume, typically 5-10 admission/consults per evening. Responsible for inpatient hospital medicine cross-coverage overnight, with an average overnight inpatient census of 40#50.

Open ICU with 24/7 Intensivist coverage. No requirement for procedures, lines, intubation, or ventilator management. BC/BE in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Prior inpatient Hospitalist experience required.
