Major Gifts Officer

Bethlehem, PA, United StatesFull-timePosted Oct 14, 2026

Job description

Our Mission, Plainly

The mission of Community Action Lehigh Valley is to improve the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas by building communities in which all people have access to economic opportunity, the ability to pursue that opportunity, and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

The Impact Role

As Major Gifts Officer, you’ll help fuel Community Action Lehigh Valley’s work by growing a strong major-gifts program across CALV and Second Harvest Food Bank. You’ll partner closely with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and leaders across the agency to connect donors with the outcomes they care about.

Key responsibilities include

  • Build and manage a major-gift portfolio using tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans
  • Lead donor visits, tours, proposals, briefings, and thoughtful follow-up
  • Strengthen the prospect pipeline (including emerging major donors) and support campaigns, recognition, and agency-wide fundraising priorities
  • Advance planned/legacy giving conversations and track commitments
  • Maintain clean, timely DonorPerfect records and report on progress

Required qualifications/skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; 3–5 years in fundraising/development, relationship management, sales, or related work
  • Strong communication, organization, discretion, and collaboration skills
  • Comfort with CRM/donor databases and Microsoft Office

If you’re ready to turn relationships into lasting community impact, apply today.

A Day That Connects

You’ll start on-site in Bethlehem by scanning your pipeline and mapping a few high-value touchpoints. Mid-morning might be a discovery chat with a new prospect, followed by a quick huddle with a community partner to gather fresh stories and outcomes donors will love hearing about. After lunch, you’re out for a donor tour or coffee meeting—then back to draft a crisp proposal and log updates in DonorPerfect. Some days include coordinating introductions or prepping for an evening or weekend reception. You’ll wrap up by checking progress toward goals and teeing up tomorrow’s conversations—because momentum is kind of the point.

The Good Stuff

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription coverage (Community Action covers 90% of employee health care costs)
  • Free telemedicine access (board-certified doctors, mental health professionals, and more)
  • No-cost concierge services to help navigate the healthcare system
  • Agency-paid life insurance and long-term disability
  • Voluntary life insurance and short-term disability options
  • 401(k) retirement plan with matching plus annual agency contribution up to 7%
  • Additional perks including financial wellness resources and employee discounts
  • Generous paid leave: 15 vacation days (with more after 2- and 5-year anniversaries), 2 personal days, 9 sick days, and 10 observed holidays
