Public Works Reports To: Chief Surveyor Temporary: Internship Classified or Unclassified: Unclassified FLSA :Non-exempt Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works Land Surveying Co-op Summer 2026 We are currently hiring co-ops looking to gain experience in field of Surveying.

Requirements

High School graduate & currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Surveying program. Position : On site (in the field and in the office) Survey Department responsibilities. Experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word and some basic knowledge of current field surveying practices preferred. Performs technical assignments in connection with field observations, organization and translation of field data to support the production of detailed plans.

Collaborates with the Sanitary, Design and Construction Divisions of Public Works, in the Highway Design, Bridge Design, Sanitary Design, & Planning areas. Work entails application of college-level mathematical knowledge, technical skills, and communication capabilities toward production of detailed design plans, detailed research notes and other Survey Department supporting documents.

Under supervision of Survey Section Chief or County Surveying/Engineer Staff performs functions related to the production and review of design computations, detailed drawings, property boundary calculations, survey reports and supporting documents. Supports review of survey drawings for conformance to governing design standards, specifications and dimensional tolerances.

May be tasked with answering routine telephone and email inquiries from survey professionals and the general public. Under supervision of Public Works staff, travels to field to observe proposed projects and projects under construction. This is an unclassified position.
