Director of Accountability Concept Schools Central Office Department Accountability and Human Resources Location Concept Schools Central Office, 1336 Basswood Road, Schaumburg, IL 60173 Reports To Chief Accountability and Human Resources Officer Position Summary The Director of Accountability leads Concept Schools' network-wide accountability, performance monitoring, and school improvement systems.
The role translates high-quality data into clear priorities, differentiated support, and disciplined follow-through across Concept schools, regions, and Central Office. Working within the Accountability and Human Resources Department, the Director partners with the Chief Accountability and Human Resources Officer, Superintendents, and school leaders to establish consistent performance measures, data-governance practices, reporting cycles, and improvement protocols.
The Director owns the accountability framework and performance-review process, including the Universal School Report Card, school performance evaluation cycle, accountability dashboards, survey, and 5Essentials analysis, School Improvement Plan review, targeted support documentation, and required accountability reporting.
Operations and Technology partners provide the system architecture, integration, automation, and technical support necessary to implement these tools.
Qualifications
Master's degree in education, educational leadership, assessment, data analytics, public policy, or a related field required. Doctorate or advanced training in educational leadership, research, evaluation, or data analytics preferred. Experience: At least three years of administrative experience in assessment, accountability, school improvement, data analysis, or a related K-12 education role.
Demonstrated success using data to improve student outcomes and to build the capacity of school and regional leaders. Knowledge and Skills: Strong command of K-12 accountability systems, assessment and student-information data, performance measurement, and continuous-improvement methods. Ability to analyze complex information, develop practical business rules and reporting standards, manage multiple projects, communicate findings clearly, facilitate adult learning, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Proficiency with data-analysis, visualization, and reporting tools is required.
Responsibilities
and Duties Accountability Strategy and Performance Systems Develop, maintain, and improve Concept's network-wide accountability framework, performance indicators, business rules, and performance-review processes. Develop and implement accountability frameworks and policies. Monitor and report on school performance metrics, including student achievement, attendance, and graduation rates.
Ensure accurate and timely data reporting to stakeholders. Advance data-driven decision-making and elevate data analysis. Maintain clear indicator definitions, evidence sources, scoring methodology, data standards, and ownership for accountability measures. Lead implementation and ongoing refinement of the Universal School Report Card and Executive Dashboard, integrating academic, organizational, financial, governance, enrollment, human-resources, and other approved indicators into a consistent monitoring system.
Plan and direct annual and recurring school performance reporting, including regional and school dashboards, leadership briefings, and public-facing data preparation when assigned. Advance data governance, data quality, and data-inquiry practices across schools and Central Office. Data Management and Analysis Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of school performance data.
Use data analytics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and best practices. Collaborate with school leaders to use data-driven insights for strategic planning. Advocate for best practices and identify opportunities for alignment with district initiatives. Analyze assessment data from various programs and prepare data for public release.
Coordinate program evaluation services and provide leadership in planning and reporting. Lead annual analysis of 5Essentials, end-of-year survey, and related stakeholder-feedback data; prepare multi-year comparisons and actionable findings for principals, Superintendents, and executive leadership. Identify meaningful trends, equity gaps, promising practices, and areas requiring intervention.
Translate results into concise recommendations and clear next steps. Continuous Improvement and Differentiated School Support Lead initiatives to improve academic performance and operational efficiency. Support the development and implementation of action plans for underperformance. Foster a culture of continuous improvement through evidence-based practices and professional development.
Lead the School Performance Evaluation and Improvement Cycle using Universal School Report Card results, school-health indicators, and other evidence to identify strengths, risks, and support needs. Develop and maintain a School Health Index and differentiated performance/risk tiers. Establish and monitor differentiated support protocols, including desktop monitoring, formal performance reviews, targeted school visits, improvement coaching, and intensive support as appropriate.
Coordinate School Improvement Plan submission, review, feedback, and follow-up processes; monitor progress on required action plans. Document targeted school support, follow-up actions, and evidence of progress so leadership can monitor implementation and results. Strategic Planning and Performance Management Plan and direct strategies for performance systems at Concept Schools.
Lead research, performance measurement, and reporting practices to support timely monitoring. Oversee the alignment of operational plans to foster a performance culture meeting all students' educational needs. Conduct evaluations of key program initiatives to inform leadership and stakeholders. Coordinate required accountability, grant, and external reporting, including Charter School Growth Fund data collection and documentation, as assigned.
Maintain reliable documentation, reporting calendars, and project trackers for accountability initiatives and recurring deliverables. Stakeholder Engagement Act as a liaison between schools, the Central Office, and external stakeholders on accountability matters. Communicate accountability results and implications clearly.
Provide training and support to school leaders on accountability standards and processes. Train and support school and regional leaders in interpreting data, using accountability tools, conducting data inquiry, and implementing improvement strategies. Leadership and Collaboration Work closely with the Chief Accountability and Human Resources Officer to align strategies with organizational goals.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive support for school improvement. Lead the enhancement of data inquiry practices across the school community. Model effective instructional leadership and adult learning practices. Supervise Concept Schools' progress and performance measurement system. Serve as a primary liaison among schools, regional leadership, Central Office departments, and external partners on accountability matters.
Partner with Operations and Technology on dashboard requirements, data integrations, automation, access, and support. Clearly distinguish accountability ownership from technical-system ownership. Collaborate with Academic, Human Resources, Finance, Operations, Enrollment, Governance, and other teams to reduce duplicative monitoring and align school-support activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities Direct supervisory assignments, if any, will be established by the Chief Accountability and Human Resources Officer. The Director provides project leadership, training, and functional direction to cross-departmental teams and school or regional leaders within the assigned scope. Physical and Work Requirements This position primarily works in an office and school-based environment and requires the ability to use standard office technology, communicate effectively, and review detailed information.
Regular travel to Concept schools is required for scheduled and responsive school visits, performance reviews, targeted-support activities, data and improvement meetings, and professional events. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated by the Chief Accountability and Human Resources Officer in accordance with Concept Schools' performance-management practices and the position outcomes, goals, and responsibilities assigned for the year. Position Outcome Concept Schools has a consistent, trusted accountability system that enables leaders to understand each school's performance, respond to risks early, focus support where it is most needed, and monitor whether improvement actions produce better outcomes for students and schools.
