City/State: Nyack, New York Department: 6 Doctors Medical/Surgical Work Shift: Evening Work Days: EVENINGS VARY Scheduled Hours: 11 AM-8:30 PM Scheduled Daily Hours: 8.5 HOURS Hours Per Pay Period: 40 Pay Rate/Range: Salary range $120.000-$130,000 Job Summary Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager guides, directs, teaches, evaluates and counsels unit staff in providing professional care and complying with Policy and Procedure.

She/he acts as a clinical educator implementing the nursing practice model, nursing process and provides direct patient care as needed. Assumes administrative responsibility for the 6 Doctors units in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Provides input to Nurse Manager in reference to hiring, counseling and terminating employees.

Participates in providing educational programs and activities for 6 Doctors staff to enhance the delivery of care utilizing evidence-based practice.

Essential Functions

Demonstrates the technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the successful operations of the department including, where applicable, age specific competency. *

  1. Ensures the execution of patient care delivery using the most current evidence based standards of care.
  2. Implements interventions that are effective and appropriate to the complexity of patient care problems and the resources available within the unit.
  3. Collaborates with multidisciplinary professionals to integrate nursing interventions into a comprehensive plan of care to enhance patient outcomes.
  4. Collaborates with patients/clients and other healthcare professionals, as appropriate, to monitor progress toward outcomes and modifications as needed.
  5. Mentors nurses to critique and apply current evidence based standards to nursing practice.
  6. Works collaboratively with nursing staff to implement interventions that improve patient care and nursing sensitive outcomes.
  7. Assists the Nurse Manager by facilitating the orientation of staff to the unit/department by:
  • Collaborating with Staff Development specialists to organize orientation schedules, content, and creating a learning environment for the developing staff nurses.
  • Assesses the outcomes of the care provided to patients by the new nurse to determine adherence to Evidenced Based Care standards, organizational policies and procedures.
  • Recommends alternative learning strategies and modifications to the orientation plan as needed.
  1. Assist Nurse Manager with unit based Quality Improvement initiatives including nursing sensitive indicators, core measures, and regulatory requirements. This will include:
  • Achieving organizational and departmental goals.
  • Data collection.
  • Analysis of data.
  • Development of action plans to improve performance.
  1. Assist Nurse Manager in indentifying, providing, and maintaining the educational needs and requirements of the staff, including, but not limited to:
  • In-services
  • Yearly competencies.
  1. Advocates for and incorporates the concepts of shared leadership when resolving problems, developing action plans and mentoring staff. Participates in unit based and organizational Shared Leadership activities, councils, and committees.
  2. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to complete the preparation of yearly evaluations of staff.
  3. Ensure compliance with NYS DOH and Joint Commission requirements. CUSTOMER SERVICE:

  5. Holds staff accountable for the delivery of excellent customer service.
  6. Participates in team efforts to increase the level of customer satisfaction. B. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT:

  8. Demonstrates the ability to develop, implement and evaluate a Performance Improvement Plan.
  9. Participates in Departmental/Hospital-wide activities which improve processes/outcomes.
  10. Utilizes resources to maintain and improve self knowledge and development and fosters the same for employees.
  11. Demonstrates compliance with licensure/certification requirements and the timeliness of their submission. C. PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:
  12. Completes projects/assignments within projected time frames and expectations.

Qualifications

Associate Degree Required Bachelor Degree Preferred A minimum of three years recent clinical experience within designated specialty; demonstrated with leadership qualities. Membership in a professional organization recommended. Written documentation of attendance in continuing education programs. Excellent written and communication skills Registered Nurse New York
