IT Data & Analytics Intern
Job description
IT Data Analytics Summer Intern Come join the Tillamook Team, one of the fastest-growing dairy brands in the US, where we Play to Win to create over 200 dairy products in 6 different categories: cheese, ice cream, yogurt, sour cream, butter, and cream cheese. Our Uncompromising Quality has led us to become the #1 Cheddar, #2 Cream Cheese and #3 Family Size Ice Cream brand, but we’re not stopping there.
We’re loading up for our best years to come and want you to join us. As a farmer-owned cooperative since 1909, we know that being Good Stewards for our stakeholders and doing a little extra always pays off. We’re looking for team members with a One Team and Genuine Care mindset who are inspired to share the delight of the Tillamook brand with each other and others every day.
About the TCCA Summer Intern Program: Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA)’s Summer Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program for graduate and undergraduate students to join the Tillamook team to connect to our 115-year-old heritage. Our interns play a significant role in solving real-world business challenges and enjoy bites of our ice cream, cheese and beloved dairy products every step of the way.
As a farmer-owned cooperative, we invite interns to visit the farms of our farmer-owners so they can see what cow care, environmental stewardship and the daily operations of a dairy farm look like, up close. In addition to the farm tour, we host multiple enriching experiences throughout the duration of the program, that include being an honorary Tillamook taste bud for the day with our immersive cheese and ice cream tastings, “college-inspired” cooking class with our executive chef, resume & interview workshop, sales market tours and so much more!
This role is based out of our Portland, Oregon office. How this work makes an impact: Creating central source of truth for data and Tillamook will enable business users to make data driven decisions faster and more reliably. The application window will be open until the position is filled or until we reach our cap of 100 applicants.
We will review applications and move selected candidates through our interview process with the goal of having all interns identified no later than the end of the year.
What you will do
There are so many options in the data analytics space, and your project can be tailored to your skills and areas of interest. In 2027, our Data & Analytics team is focused on migrating Sales, Finance and Supply Chain data into Microsoft Fabric — and you will work alongside the team that is building it. You will own a real, scoped piece of that work, not a side project that gets shelved at the end of the summer.
Depending on your interests, your summer could include any mix of the following: Build in Microsoft Fabric. Join the data modernization project and help stand up our modern data environment — building and testing data pipelines, loading source data into the lakehouse, and organizing data so it is easy to find, trust and reuse.
Gather requirements and translate them. Sit down with business partners in Sales, Finance or Supply Chain, learn what questions they are trying to answer, and turn those conversations into clear, documented technical requirements the team can build from. Write SQL and build data models. Use SQL — and optionally Python, Py.
Spark or DAX — to transform raw data into clean, well-structured, reusable data models that power reporting across the business. Build Power BI reports and dashboards. Design, build and publish reports that real users rely on, including the data visualization, performance tuning, and the end-user walkthrough when you hand it off.
Explore AI and agents. If AI is your interest, help build agents that let business partners chat with their data in Fabric, and help define how we test, govern and measure those experiences. Strengthen data governance and quality. Help document data definitions, validate numbers back to source systems, and contribute to the standards that make our certified datasets trustworthy.
You will finish the summer with a portfolio-ready deliverable, a final presentation to Data & Analytics and IT leadership, and hands-on experience with the same enterprise tooling our full-time analysts and engineers use every day — Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, SQL, GitHub, Jira and Confluence. Here’s a day in the life: No two days look exactly alike, but a typical day on the Data & Analytics team might look something like this: Morning stand-up.
Join the team’s daily 15-minute stand-up to share what you finished yesterday, what you are picking up today, and anything blocking you. You will have your own tickets on the board, just like everyone else. Heads-down build time. Pick up your sprint work — writing SQL, building a Fabric pipeline, shaping a semantic model, or laying out a new Power BI page.
Troubleshoot a broken report. A business partner flags that a number looks wrong. You trace it from the report, through the data model, back to the source system, figure out what changed, and fix it. Peer review. Review a teammate’s pull request or report build, ask questions, and get your own work reviewed in return.
This is how our team keeps quality high — and it is one of the fastest ways to learn. Meet with a business partner. Demo what you have built, ask clarifying questions, and adjust based on what you hear. You will be in the room with the people who actually use the data. Document what you learned. Write a knowledge base article in Confluence so the next person, teammate or future intern, does not have to solve the same problem twice.
Spot an automation opportunity. Notice a manual, repetitive process and pitch a way to automate it. Several of our improvements started exactly that way. Learn and connect. Join a team learning session, grab time with your mentor, or head out with the intern cohort for a farm tour, a creamery tasting, or a market tour.
You will be paired with a mentor on the Data & Analytics team, meet regularly with your manager, and work to a clear project plan with checkpoints so you always know how you are tracking. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Education level: Any undergrad student Preferred fields of study: Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, Data Analytics Experience and exposure to Power BI and SQL Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program and not due to graduate the semester prior to the internship.
We are committed to creating a diverse culture and inclusive conditions where all employees are heard, valued and feel a sense of belonging. We rely on different perspectives, thoughts, backgrounds and cultures to inform our work, to help us be better as a brand and as an employer and to fuel our success. We are seeking talent from a wide range of diversity, perspectives, and backgrounds to join our exceptional organization and help us build our future.
