Job Summary
The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for sewing and finishing fabric products used in custom signage, apparel, home interiors, trade-show displays, event marketing, and framing systems. This position requires an experienced sewing operator who can produce accurate, high-quality work while working efficiently in a production environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with both serger and straight-stitch sewing machines, understands how to work with different fabrics and larger projects, and takes pride in producing consistent, quality work.
Essential Duties
& Responsibilities Sewing & Production: Operate serger and straight-stitch sewing machines to produce finished products accurately, efficiently, and according to specifications. Quality & Accuracy: Inspect finished work for proper stitching, seams, dimensions, and overall workmanship to ensure products meet quality expectations.
Fabric Preparation: Cut and prepare rolls of fabric for sewing and finishing according to production requirements. Large-Format Projects: Assist with lifting, positioning, and maneuvering larger fabric projects safely throughout the sewing and finishing process. Production Prioritization: Follow work orders and production priorities to complete projects accurately and on schedule.
Equipment & Work Area: Perform basic sewing machine setup and routine maintenance, maintain an organized work area, and communicate equipment or supply needs. Teamwork & Communication: Work cooperatively with other team members and communicate production needs, quality concerns, and questions to the Department Supervisor.
Qualifications
Previous sewing experience preferred.Experience operating both serger and straight-stitch sewing machines. Ability to accurately sew and finish fabric products in a production environment. Experience working with a variety of fabrics and larger fabric projects preferred. Ability to read and follow work orders, measurements, and production instructions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work efficiently while maintaining consistent quality. Good communication and teamwork skills. Reliable attendance and ability to work independently. Ability to safely lift and maneuver larger fabric projects with assistance as needed. Sewing Skills Assessment Candidates will complete a hands-on sewing skills assessment as part of the interview process.
The assessment will be used to evaluate sewing ability, accuracy, quality, machine operation, and overall production readiness. Work Environment This position works primarily in a manufacturing environment and involves extended periods of sitting while operating sewing equipment. The employee may also need to stand, walk, reach, bend, and maneuver fabric and larger projects throughout the workday.
The work environment may include seasonal temperature changes, sewing machine noise, fabric dust, and other typical manufacturing conditions. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods while operating sewing equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers repetitively while sewing and handling fabric. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and maneuver materials as needed.
Ability to safely lift and maneuver larger fabric projects with assistance. Ability to perform repetitive sewing and production tasks throughout the workday.
